Xiaomi has just launched a new e-reader, called Mi Reader Pro. It is a massive upgrade over the initial Mi Reader and comes as a direct competitor to Amazon Kindle Oasis, the bigger brother of the Paperwhite.

The new reader comes with a big display, plenty of customizations of the screen, and voice search for quicker input of titles.

The display is 7.8” in diagonal with an e-ink screen and 330 ppi pixel density. The screen illuminating LED comes with 24-level adjustable brightness and the ability to change the color tone from warm to cold, depending on the surrounding, allowing for a more comfortable reading experience.

Inside there are 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, quad-core CPU, and Android Oreo 8.1-based user interface. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and the reader supports local Chinese platforms like Baidu and WeChat Reading. Xiaomi implemented some of its own Xiao AI voice functions to offer a smoother and faster browsing experience on the Mi Reader Pro.

Books can be transferred from a phone if both devices are in the same wireless network, and it supports all the well-known file formats such as .txt, .epub, .pdf, and even Microsoft Office documents. The internal battery is 3,200 mAh, allowing for up to 70 days standby.

The Xiaomi Mi Reader Pro comes only in Black and officially costs CNY1,299, but the first sale begins at CNY1,099, which is about $165/€140. So far, the reader can be purchased only in China, but hopefully, it will appear overseas as it looks like a really tempting offer.
