JeanDom, 20 Aug 2018The Xiaomi M8 specs are OK and I am about to buy it. But I am trying first to solve some prob... moreno radio, audio jack with adapter included. Anyway i don't use any of these things, I don't like wired headphones, i use pandora and spotify, so i don't care the radio at all.
I bought it on a Chinese online website. It doesn't come with a EU charger, you need to use an extra adapter. It comes with a Chinese ROM in which you can also use English. Anyway I'll flash a global ROM, maybe Xiaomi.eu because I want to get rid of the Chinese bloatware and I prefer an optimized ROM with better camera and GPS.
Unfortunately in order to flash a new ROM you need to wait for 360 hours to unlock the bootloader. And if anything goes wrong you can brick the phone and need to get an special authentication to repair it. Xiaomi doesn't provide them anymore for free. This is very bad.
Be careful and do not relock the bootloader.
Anyway, the phone looks nice, the material is better than I expected on a 320€ phone.
The camera is nice, though not perfect yet. Many camera apps don't work, I think we'll need to wait for a firmware upgrade to be able to use the HDR function properly.
The most dissapointing issue is the GPS. It works but it's not able to use the L5 dual signal. I hope they fix it soon but I think we will need to wait at least to the launching of Android 9.0.
Everything else sees to be OK. It's a fast phone. Some people complains about the notch, but I think it's a beautiful phone. The screen is nice though you can see this phone on different shops with the screen turned on all day at maximum and they start to burn the colors, I hope it won't happen to me.
The battery is great, it lasts for several days. Now I'm looking for a good screen protector and a light case.
The USB port is really slow, 32MB/s, this is ridiculous nowadays.
How fast does it charge, I currently have oneplus 3 dash charged in just over 1hr
And by the way. Anybody can ansver me why you need ip 68 rating? I had never had phone with ip rating, and never had problems with that. And I dont use headphones with phone, so i dont need that 3,5 mmm jack.
What I need from phone - cameras have to be good, it must be fast, good conectivity, great screen, and battery that works all day, and should not look like a brick :) all other stuff is a marketing stuff
Bought it yesterday. It is fast, really fast. Screen is nice, more to square side not like long narrow sausage of Samsung. Automatic brightness works better than on Samsung.
Camera compared to s6edge plus is a bit better because of wider aperture, but in real life it will loose to Galaxy S8, if even by a little, but will lose. Call quality is good, but not excellent, by that I mean that the person you speak with, hears you a bit sintetic. Speaker is ok, lacks of bass.
What I don't like is that after update almost every application needs permition to manage phone calls and access gallery, to work, otherwise you can't even look at videos you have filmed.
Otherwise it is the best phone for 400 EUR, you can get now. Its not the Samsung S8 or s9, of course, but are they hundreds of Euros better, I doubt that.
Zzz, 27 Aug 2018Hi all,so I'm searching for a good budget phone with SD845 and at least 6gb of RAM.Mi8 looks p... moreTake Black shark si you like gaming
or pokophone if you want micro SD slot and Jack for earbuds
Great phone overall, except you have to install home launcher, video/music player, gallery, file manager, etc. on your own, since the apps that came with xiaomi have ads all over the place. Makes it looks really dirty. Unless you're okay with google photos, etc.
NOTE: Even with "Receive recommendation" unticked, you'll still get ads here and there. No way to work around it. If you're okay with it, then this phone is perfect.
too bad this flagship phone does not have IR like huawei flagship p20 pro and mate 10 pro. Xiaomi should have the mi 8 pro with IR and water proof features
I own it. It is an incredible piece of technology ! Superb screen, not too wide, the navigation is very fluid. All is fast. I recommend.
a flagship phone with -
** no IP rating
** no wireless charging
** no headphone jack
** no IR remote (used to be a good xiaomi feature)
