But still, we shouldn't have to adjust our ways and pay so much attention to such a basic activity that is talking on the phone.
Xiaomi should definitely address the issue appropriately.

But when i moved the phone below, so the top of the phone is in my skin face side just below the hear i do not have any issue. Try that and report back. You hear even better that way because the sound comes from the top of the phone.

I ordered the phone b4 I came to read user opinions so my heart sank a little by some of the comments. I've used the phone for three weeks now and the only problem I have with it is the fingerprint unlock which is painfully too slow for my liking. Initial I was trying so hard to see the pixels and I did but after a while I don't notice it again because I was not looking and I have to admit the screen is beautiful and doesn't hurt the eyes at all, I don't even use the comfort view at night. There is notification led light on mine and the proximity sensor works as expected, maybe I'm one of the lucky few. Multi-tasking is on point too. Overall the phone is fast and battery performance is great too. I'm a somewhat heavy user and the battery is able to take me through the day successfully. Both gcom and stock camera app does well at different scenes/scenarios so I use both depending on the situation. I'm just loving this phone day by day. I hope they hold on and give us android 11 update instead, that will be better in my opinion though.

LL, 19 Feb 2020What is the issue of proximity sensor you re talking? Maybe i have it and did not noticed it.The proximity sensor issue appears when making/receiving a phone call, thus preventing the user from keeping the call going.
In particular, the proximity sensor does not correctly turn off the screen, i.e. it doesn't cover the correct distance/width range from your head, which leads to frequent accidental touches on the screen, further leading to muting or disconnecting the call, or you accidentally slide down the notification shade, or dial an additional number, things like that.

I'm not... moreThey have the same soc and battery but mi a3 runs on stock android means that Mi A3 will have better battery and better performance probably better update support so Mi a3. The only thing is that Mi a3 has 720p screen vs 1080p of the redmi note 8 but this could be on the side of the mi a3 because means better gameing performace for the Mi A3 and of course Mi a3 has amoled could lead to even better battery performance.

To be honest, I'm not too confident that Xiaomi are going to fix it.

If i put the top of the phone just below my hear i did n... moreI'm happy for you, however the proximity issue on the Mi A3 is a well-documented and widely reported problem that has been annoying a lot of Mi A3 owners around the globe. Just Google it and you'll see what I mean.
Xiaomi have made a mess with proximity sensors on several models, and it's unlikely to ever get fixed, to be honest.
But hey, let's see what the new update brings..

I really wanted to say thanks to xiaomi for Keeping us to wait for Android 10 on mi a3 while Google is testing beta of Android 11. Moreover, they are not ashamed of it rather Raising slogans of Android one.
Mi A3 is really a downgrade in all respects even from mi A1:
1. Poor screen resolution than A1
2. Poor built. Plastic frame as compared to aluminum built of A1
3. Telephoto lens has been removed in favour of poor combination of three cameras
4. A series is no more a preferred series like it was when A1 was launched
