I had received my phone on 5th August 2016 In India. It has wifi Issue. Customer care said that its software bug. But I have read many articles regarding this issue and came to know people has tried different MIUI version on the phone and problem still exists. Some people had tried Cynogenmod ROM on it still no luck. So it is now 95% confirm that its a hardware issue. MI India has approximately sold around 70000 phone through MI.com / Flipkart and Amazon in the 2nd lot in the month of Aug-2016 who has same problem. Also if contacted MI customer care and service centre they are not ready to give replacement or refund against the product and telling customers to wait for 10 days. Also as per MI India replacement policy we get refund only if applied in 10 days. So MI has cheated 70000 Indian people and we have no option to wait for MI decision.
Mi Max has wi-fi issue. Do not buy this phone. Do not buy any mi phone as it access your personal stuff like photos, files, audio, video and sell it to other companies. Your privacy could be lost.
I have a suggestion about wifi issue. I guess it is related to android. Few years ago, wifi didn't connect in Iran because of android, and users was forced to change their place by some softs. I hope this problem don't relate to hardware and solve soon.

They have sent a defective Mi Max phone, which is having major issue with wifi and they are not agreeing to replace or refund even though its a out-of-box defective piece. This is not only my problem. They are even blocking the numbers from which we call to their customer care.
Which is "Asus", "Xiaomi", or "Huawei", which phones are best in high end and mid range please let me know thanks in advance

I got my max today I am very excited. But I also face same issue with Wifi.
Wifi,xender or any file transfer app is not working which related with Wifi.
It's 1st time MI is doing a this kind of big disappointment.
And I don't think it's a software's issues.
Coz when Wifi searching and saving password at that time also don't seen Wifi signal on top bar. In Hotspot or xender also same.

For those who claiming wifi connectivity issues, please ensure contact your reseller instead of claiming it here all phone has wifi issues. I have mine ( 64gb version ) for about 2 weeks, no issues connecting to 4g or wifi ( using 3 network in UK ). Also I have no issues with my unit, received it from gearbest.
I cannot describe how excited I was to get my MI Max and now I cannot describe how agonized, appalled & disgusted I am with MI Max and more importantly Xiaomi.
As many others, I realize, I noticed a problem with Wi-Fi connection on my MI Max which stated "saved" but not actually connecting to the internet. I walked into your Bannerghata road, Bangalore service center today afternoon at ~1 pm to see several other customers queuing up for the same issue, for the same phablet. After waiting for around an hour or so, the service center rep called upon me, acknowledged the issue and informed that a Â‘software patch upgradeÂ’ is likely to resolve the issue and if still unresolved I would need to reach out on the customer care (1800###..). As directed by the rep, I removed the sim & memory card and handed over Â‘MI(my)Â’ phone to him. He then asked to log-off the MI account, which I tired but couldnÂ’t because the phone wasnÂ’t connected to the internet. I specifically asked him if I should put the sim back and try and he said Â“thatÂ’s okay, we can do it laterÂ”. Not having a clue what will transpire next, I handed over the phone to him Â– I wish I knew better!
Around 45 minutes of further wait, the rep got my phone. Post the initial setup, we tried connecting to Wi-Fi, but we didnÂ’t succeed. I tried exiting to the main menu on the phone, but the message on the screen insisted that I login to the MI account but I wasnÂ’t able to in spite of repeatedly entering accurate password. We failed to navigate to any other screen. The service center rep took the phone to his manager and they opened-up the phoneÂ… and another hour of waitÂ…. All this while, there were plenty of agitated and almost distraught customers showing immense dissatisfaction with the service but more prominently with XIAOMI. And Â‘MI(my)Â’ phone laid there with its veins and wires flying around, mutilated. Only after numerous attempts and intensive efforts of around 30 minutes they were able to integrate the components of my phone.
After handing over the phone and the job-sheet to me, the rep and his manager suggested I talk to the customer care. Since morning, at different times, I had attempted to call customer service tens of times but to no avail. 20 minutes of rigorous back-to-back calling and I succeeded. A lady answered - couldnÂ’t find the job-sheet info Â– put me on hold Â– 12 minutes Â– I decided to hang up. Multiple attempts again and a guy answered Â– I mentioned all whatÂ’s transpired, he affirmed I will get a replacement and assured that someone will call me within 24 hrs (tomorrow is Sunday!). I also realized on the call there is a drastic drop in the voice quality from the microphone and even the phoneÂ’s loud speaker.
I informed the service center manager about the voice quality issue and that Â‘we canÂ’t be able toÂ’ turn on or off the screen unless itÂ’s turned on by an external factor (phone call, notification on charging)! He checked, acknowledged and assured that I would get a replacement soon and provided me with his personal mobile number as well.
I reached home after 5 hour of this ordeal!! I have now set the screen timeout to Â‘neverÂ’ Â– meaning the mammoth 4850 MAH battery is being utilized to its fullest. Furthermore, I realized that there am unable to set the fingerprint scanner up, have lost the option to do so. DonÂ’t know what else is to follow!!
So as it stands, what started out as being amidst the rampant WI-FI issue with MI Max phones of this lot, it has exacerbated into issues with the speakers, finger-print scanner and more agonizingly the jam-packed power button of this next BIG thing!
I must add here that be it at the service center or at customer care, the reps did try all that they could but seemingly helpless hence failing in delivering any resolution Â– in fact adding insult to injury! I reckon they, like your customers, have been let down by you Â– XIAOMI.
