Market research firm IDC has released its latest (Q1 2016) stats for the worldwide wearables market, revealing that Xiaomi is now the number two player in the business, surpassing Apple which is now at the third position.
While Fitbit continued to be the top vendor, Garmin also retained the fourth spot. What's worth mentioning here is that Samsung has made a come back in the top 5 list, something which the report credits to the success of the company's Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic smartwatches.
Overall, the market continued to grow, although growth in Q1 2016 slowed down a bit compared to the quarter prior.
"The good news is that the wearables market continues to mature and expand," noted IDC's Ramon Llamas. "The wearables that we see today are several steps ahead of what we saw when this market began, increasingly taking their cues from form, function, and fashion. That keeps them relevant. The downside is that it is becoming a crowded market, and not everyone is guaranteed success."
