If you paid less than $200 USD it may be fake. If you want to buy a genuine Xiaomi phone, I recommend this website: http://www.vaultgadgets.net/en/cell-phones/smartphones/original-xiaomi-redmi-black-android-4-2-quad-core-rom-4gb-ram-1gb-4-7-inch-ips-capacitive-screen.html
Potential buyers should be aware that Hongmi Note (previously speculated to be called Hongmi 2) has been released in China. It's supply is still very limited even in China. It has an impressive Octa-core and its price (standard version, Octa-core 1.4GHz) is same as Hongmi at its first launch (RMB799). Many potential buyers of Hongmi are waiting and wish to buy Hongmi Note instead once available.
English version of the official website in case anyone interested. http://www.mi.com/en
Ranju Mian, 20 Apr 2014I just bought two sets in Canton. Only 112/set.Hongmi official selling price is RMB 699 (reduced from 799 recently). If you paid less than that it may be fake.
koniac, 03 May 2014can i use this phone in india????????If you wish to use Hongmi outside China, I would suggest buying the Hongmi 'Hong Kong' version which has less restrictions than the China version. Hongmi 'HK' version allows 3G (all HK sim card, not sure about India but probably the same) and also fully support Google Play store (Yes, China version doesn't have that!)
Hongmi 'HK' version is also limited in supply but you can buy easily at HKD 1100 to 1200 at most phone shops. (Selling price from official website is HKD999)
I am not 100% sure but if you wish to use this phone in India, you may consider choosing the 'hong kong' version Hongmi, which support HK 3G (probably India as well) as well as google play store (restricted in china version).
Ranju Mian, 20 Apr 2014I just bought two sets in Canton. Only 112/set.prob fakes.

Hi, I would like to know that how much the 4GB ROM is actually usable...??
Eg. Sony Z1 compact is 16GB but only around 12GB is usable etc.
masu, 05 Apr 2014can it's use in bangladesh?you need to check the frequencies in your cellular provider - can you do that?
If they are selling from the factory or warehouse, no third party. It becomes inexpensive. Worth the specs with such a price S$169.
