According to Apple, 300 ppi is the sweet spot, because that is roughly the point at which the human eye stops being able to discern individual pixels at a certain viewing distance (and on a certain sized screen). It matters only on tv which is 40-50" screen, you can see difference in hd and full hd there even in quad hd, for smartphones it is just a selling point, and to drain more battery.
