Best phone i've ever had. Still use it in 2021 with no issues.
I already repaired a lot of phones and this one is hardwarewise just very easy and cheap to repair by youtube tutorials so you can keep it for many years.
design and body:
it has a solid body like a brick. It is very stable and still light. i never used any protectors or cases. I broke the screen glass once back in 2019 but the screen was so easy and cheap to replace it on my own (not complicated like iphone screen replacement for example). I never worry about screen breaks again. The only minor issue i've noticed at my device is that i already replaced the charging port for 3 times in 4 years. My charging port became every time too loose by time for the micro usb cable to connect and charge properly. But still this port can be replaced easily within 5 minutes and a new charging port costs ~10 USD on ebay.
Battery: battery life is just amazing. 4100 mah for an 1280x720 IPS panel results for me in still having like 50 or 40% left when i go to sleep. Of course the battery looses capacity over time, but it can be replaced also very easy and for small money on our own. Running today already on the third battery and feels like day one.
Screen: i love the screen size of 5 inch, too bad manufacturers today are just building new phones for the needs of asian customers who like to have 6 inch or even bigger devices. The only thing i am a little missing in 2021 is an OLED display, but more than understandable of course that xiaomi used an IPS display in a 2017 low budget device.
Bought it on August 2017 and this phone still rocks , fits perfectly in my pocket, snappy ui , the battery still lasts 24 hr++ for normal usage ( not a mobile gamer ), and its been 3 and half years, it feels like going back to 2000s nokia era when phone lasts for years not months!, been looking a replacement for this brick but sad nowadays all phone companies seem only care making stupid huge mega gaming phone
That a 5.5 inches and easy to fit in pocket with no hurdles, yes with the 3gb RAM which is not fast as you expect but this one's a very far great than useless piece of bricks with 6.5 to 6.7 inches and triple, quadruple cameras with no sense.
I wish Xiaomi could concentrate on smaller dimensions with much powerful specifications.
I hope one day everyone will again prefer to less than 6 inches phone in coming days...
It's 4 years and this phone is still not a replacement except for fast charging it lags nothing...
Great small phone, fit perfectly in your pocket. Why wasting your money buying big phone which you cant put it ni your pocket? I use this redmi 4x 4gb 64gb for 3 years and still using it.
Great phone! I have been using it for 3 years and something and it's still pretty quick. But the battery started to wore out quite a lot recently. As long as I have my adapter around then I'm fine. But I can't lie and say that I am not surprised, by the fact that this phone lasted this long after going through a lot of things and I mean a lot.

closest thing to nokia. a brick. fell from third floor and no internal damage at all. amazing specs for the price. been using it for 3.5 years and still going. camera is decent enough. battery after so much time is weaker but still better than nowadays iphone batteries. best phone ever!!!!
Still using my only device.. Yeah not as fast a before but it does my job.. I don't even need a 200+ dollar any new lower mid range or 150 dollar low end..

After 3 years and still using it as my only phone, here's my list of pros and cons.
Camera doesn't capture sunrises, sunsets very well.
Sophisticated, beautiful, varied hues of that sky seem a bit beyond this phone's capabilities.
Have had to change the screen twice in three years because of yellow marks on the edges.
Security patches have stopped.
Still quick for my tasks.
Sunsets apart, camera is decent.
Spares, screens, ridiculously cheap.
Compact and light.
Hardware navigation buttons.
Full screen experience.
No notches. No holes. No nonsense.
MIUI 11 runs smooth.
Battery still lasts a day. Depends completely on the network. I was in a country with a low population, low density, and it'd last two days. Moved to a high population country, battery life immediately dropped up a day.
Have a spare battery. Will replace if needed.
$100 phone running into its 4th year
Can't bear to look at the new, massive, ugly, heavy, glass shovels of today.
The rear looks a bit weathered in a good day. The only protection I have ever used on this phone is a matte screen sticker guard that keeps the screen free from fingerprints and glare.
Wish they come with a modern version. Redmi 4 Classic. USB C, SD 460 or 662, side FPS, reduced bezels to the best possible while retaining hardware navigation buttons. Possibly 5.4 inch 19:9 or a 4.7 inch 16:9. Use a decent single lens camera though. Need to stop with needless lenses.
I have been using this phone since June 2017 until now. It still work well. It's just that the battery runs out so fast when I use it continuously compare to when I just bought it. The screen is still fine, even I've been using it without any screen protector for 1year+. Overall this is the best phone I've ever used until now
I already have a Xiaomi Redmi 4x, and I want another for backup.
My phone is 6m high from top to bottom
Why can't I see one one line?
Most of the 4x are shown 5 and 5.5?
