Been using a Redmi 8 since Jan 2020 and the minor niggles are starting to add up. More than anything MIUI is really annoying and ram management is horrible. Don't get me wrong its a bulletproof phone and the battery life is still expectional. But given its budget phone with a budget soc, everyday performance has taken a hit. Alot of freezing and delays even when answering a call. I have lost count how many times I needed to take a photo/video asap and camera took like 10 seconds to load. And another thing people on other forums mentioned it's not advisable to update the software on a budget phone. Don't know if this true or not.
I got 2 and a half years out of this phone, don't know if I should be happy about this or not. A family member give me a Galaxy A72 last year and I haven't even used it. Just switched it on to update the software and test the camera. Maybe it's time to use it but I feel guilty just casting aside the Redmi 8.

Stevie O, 02 May 2022my Redmi 8 makes me nuts it is turning off on a frequently basis. i don't know if it is ... moremaybe you can factory reset first then update to the latest MIUI update, I suggest you upgrade to MIUI 12.5.1 if available, cause in my phone Redmi 8A Pro everything better after update to MIUI 12.5.1

my Redmi 8 makes me nuts
it is turning off on a frequently basis. i don't know if it is the software. updating the software is also a problem. my last update was September 2021.
What can i do to solve this problem?

Nice reliable phone.It's a bit heavy and thick.The camera also sucks and scrolling dark pages in low light seems somehow smudgy on its lcd screen.Other than that it can withstand some abuse and keep going.A good backup device.

I do not think poco x3 was available at the time, and this was less than half the price of a poco x3 when we got it.
This comparison is not right. Not even the Note 8 was on that level, Note 8 pro however is exactly the same price as the x3 but performes much better but lacks the nice screen.

Previously I used redmi 8A and sold it. It was energy efficient phone I regret selling it. It lasted 5 days for average use when wife, hotspot and data were off. At the moment I have redmi 9 and redmi note 9T and these phones consume much power because they use mediated. So I wanted to sell one and buy poco m3 but the phone is out of the market in my country. Now am back to Redmi 8 because I have no other option. I am asking you guys, is it energy efficient device? Does it take 5 days on moderate use? I want to buy a second hand one.

And to top things of this phone has very bad price to performance yet People still buy it for some reason.
If you want a phone that is 20 times better with everything for almost the same price just get the poco x3 nfc or poco x3 pro best phones I have used for the same price as this one that has a flagship processor and 120hz truly amazing
