I was used this phone back in 2023, and tbh it's pretty awesome phone to use despite I had no time to get bootloader unlocked. But yeah, it's still pretty usable for everyday use but I don't recommend you staying on the MIUI 11 because most apps now requires Android 8.x and later (which this phone upgraded to Android 7.0 "Nougat" from Xiaomi). I highly RECOMMENDED to get unlocked bootloader and flash custom ROM which is pretty insane that many ROM developers still making the ROM for this beast mid-range device back in 2017. And yet, it finally got Android 15 officially from EvolutionX 10.5, which is insane despite it's based on LineageOS. And yet, this phone is perfectly for backup situation if your main dialy driver is low on battery or something goes wrong.

Overall nice phone,one of the popular redmi i think because till today there are still developer for custom rom for it,i have been using 3GB version since new with custom rom android 10 with custom kernel made by me,smooth,decent fast,As for my observation Snapdragon 625 is really good on battery i still got 8 hours screen on time on heavy usage,watching youtube,japanese drama all day long,another sibling who used chipset SD625 is Xiaomi Mi A1,my friend still got 4-5 hours screen on time with 15% left is crazy while knowing it's is using smaller battery than note 4,for camera i using gcam BSG 8.1 and Hypercam based on gcam 6.1 with xml made by myself,this 2 produce great photos for my eye

Still using it,already Install custom rom with android 10 on it,won't change to latest rom since this rom give better battery backup i think and i love the customization its offers,i got 9 hours screen on time in every charge,My usage using for Youtube,Twitter,Coc,Reddit,Netflix,Disney+,Amazon prime,Quite smooth rare lags,maybe once a week it lags a bit but still acceptable,Only downside mine is 3gb ram 32gb internal,after install all those,it only left around 15gb free memory,not much on today standards,Camera very decent in broad daylight using gcam almost same as today midrange,maybe because i got sony sensor version,mind you this phone had 3 version camera sensor which is sony,samsung and omnivision,maybe will keep using this phone till it dead one day

Anonymous, 06 Jul 2025How can I do the custom installation?You need to joining some sort of Group or Reddith thread for the phone or something,I can't explain it detail here,but i can tell you the steps where you can search up in youtube for reference
0- Enable Usb debugging and log in mi account
1- Unlock Bootloader
2- Install Custom recovery
3- Install cuatom rom and gapps
4- Install magisk (It's is for root and i didn't root mine)

Awesome phone. I'm using it mostly for experiments. Lineage OS with some indian build worked flawlessly. Best phone ever

2025 It works and is mainly used for calls, but YouTube videos work normally.

In 2025, I will still use the Redmi Note 4, even though it is still often forced-closed, and is no longer compatible with several applications such as YouTube and Twitter.

Still rocks up to this date. Still in Android 7 (Nougat) stock os. But having crash lag issue in big memory apps of course. But in totality it's worth it.
