ZTE’s subsidiary brand nubia introduced its new flagship pair today. The nubia Z17S and the nubia Z17 miniS bring updated selfie cameras, newer software, prettier looks and lower prices.
The Z17S is the mightier of two. It comes with a 5.73” Full HD+ screen of 18:9 ratio. The emblematic red circle that was the home button is now implemented in the UI to make way for the taller display.
The phone runs on a Snapdragon 835 chipset, paired with either 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage or 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. The OS is Android Nougat with the latest Nubia UI 5.1 on top.
One change that nubia made in the Z17S, compared to the the Z17 is the cameras. While the main setup remains unchanged with the 12 MP + 23 MP combo, there are now two cameras on the front, both featuring 5 MP sensors. There is Gorilla Glass on top, and the body is made of aviation-grade aluminum alloy.
The 3,100 mAh battery supports 26W fast charging and ZTE promises 50% charge in 25 minutes.
The phone is sold in either Black or Blue for CNY2,999/$455 for the 6 GB version and CNY3,999/$607 for the 8 GB option. JD.com has the phone available for pre-order until October 19 when the actual sales begin at 10 AM local time.
The mini version of the Z17 also got some upgrades. Compared to the original Z17 mini, the Z17 miniS comes with Android Nougat 7.1, instead of Marshmallow. The UI is also updated to the Nubia 5.0.
We get another dual cam selfie setup. One of the front-facing cameras is 16 MP with f/2.0 aperture and 80-degree-wide lens, while the secondary has 5 MP sensor and f/2.2 aperture. The battery is also new - now it has 3,200 mAh capacity which is a 10% increase from the original Z17 mini.
The fingerprint scanner is positioned on the front since the back is now covered in glass. The rest of the specs stay the same - Snapdragon 653 chipset, 6 GB RAM, and 64 GB internal storage.
ZTE offers the nubia Z17 miniS in Black Gold and Deep Blue colors for CNY1,999 or $303. There is also an Aegean Blue version for CNY2,099/$318. Like the Z17S, the miniS is available on JD.com for pre-order and will be on sale starting October 19.

A "mini" phone with 148mm height... Nice. And looking at the render of normal Z17s, it will be pretty much the same size, if not smaller than it's mini version!!! Adding the old Snap 653 (it's like a dumpster for unsold old sh*t) and the lack of...
