NokiaGuy, 06 Mar 2009Will the (Pinchusion or barrel) distortion of the pictures be high? (Since it has wide angle)
... moreDepending on the focal lenght of the lens... if a lens focal length is pushed shorter than what is standard, then you will have a considerable perspective distortion. Not a barrel or pin distortion which are only present in telephoto lenses.
If you shoot a portrait with a wide angle lens, the face of the subject which is nearer your camera phone will have an appearance of a joker or with a big nose.
So there is nothing to brag about this wide angle lens... in photography it is only used for artistic purposes...
In fact, a standard lens will be more preferrable for casual shooting.
Will the (Pinchusion or barrel) distortion of the pictures be high? (Since it has wide angle)
By the way, this phone looks beautiful, although not as good as N85 to me. Esp the zoom button.
Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970You anonymous one @uC0e, your aperture is not exciting either. You are even mixing "optics" and "lens" in your post... for all you know... a "lens" is an "optic".
Other camera phones without mechanical auto-iris or your aperture have more advanced technique in controlling the amount of light sampled by the imager or sensor... that is thru the more advanced ELECTRONIC SHUTTER OR ELECTRONIC IRIS... because mechanical iris or aperture is outdated, primitive and bulky and draining the battery.
german, 06 Mar 2009nokia is now really really boringRealy very very boring N86 indeed... no exciting feature, no innovation introduced.
Wide angle lens being bragged? That is not exciting... almost all camera phones are wide angle... and you know why? To compensate for lack of autofocus... that's not new.
Besides... WIDE ANGLE LENS... for information of those who do not know... will introduce a VERY BAD PESPECTIVE DISTORTION on the image.
this page is really hitting straight, comments here are long, tedious and bluff. fanboys from other companies brag there CONCEPT phone, others pretend to hate the design etc
come on people, if this phone didn't capture your attention, you wouldn't have been here in the first place.
its just so happen that this is the hottest and the best spec camera phone in town at the moment.
Anonymous, 06 Mar 2009My friend Daniel... you can not spot the winner phone now from among the multitude if you will... moreI got your point.
Sony has indeed pushed the cameraphone limit from their very beginning. Sony has indeed included a very popular music player (Walkman) with a nice interface. No arguments about that. If you look at the other companies, everyone included their own music players and cameras and stuff like that, which leads to this concept of a multi-purpose phone.
My point was that this forum should discuss the aspects of this phone in general, not just arguments about the aperture and the lens of this phone. I was just giving basic examples of the things a phone should be good at.
Another point I wanted to make was that this forum should share *real* information, based on *real* reviews/previews/shootouts. Not just stuff like "Idou's the best, 12MP camera will humiliate everyone", or "Idou's gonna be crap, it's not the megapixels that count, it's the lens blah blah". Which is why I asked everyone to post *real* reviews on this forum so that we could share opinions about the true aspects of this device.
For example, some *real* information about the advantage of a wide-angle lens can be found on this site, where GSMArena posted their hands-on with Nokia N86.
I think it's a pretty bad bad looking phone.Even if it has a lot to offer, the design is awful. And it is very big
Actually nokia guarantees that the gap between the point and shoot and mobile phone cameras will be removed by them.
They says that the mobile is optimized for low light conditions too. Hence no need of battery draining Xenon that n82 has got.By the way the xenon was not a vice decision to have on cameras.
I think it is a good phone but it is not designed well. Buttons of this phone are very odd. I hope nokia designers will be think about this.
Anonymous, 06 Mar 2009My friend Daniel... you can not spot the winner phone now from among the multitude if you will... moreyes, you are correct, that opened my eyes, why are we shooting down Sony Ericsson IDOU when it is the one leading the way so that other phone manufacturers improve on their products.
examples of Sony Ericsson IDOU, Apple iPhone and Samsung Innouve are forcing other brands to catch up and improve their boring phones.
Features are really impressive. But I didn't like the keypad buttons.
Anonymous, 06 Mar 2009My friend Daniel... you can not spot the winner phone now from among the multitude if you will... moreAnonymous... whoever you are... 'was an outstanding discourse... without bias.
Daniel, 05 Mar 2009Oh, come on people, why argue so much on the camera of this phone?
I understand, there are... moreMy friend Daniel... you can not spot the winner phone now from among the multitude if you will be talking only of the MUNDANE TASKS A BASIC PHONE should have. At the present stage of technology, all mundane tasks of a phone are already perfected by even the lowest ranked maker.
That leaves to explore features that are WORLD'S FIRSTS, most of these are not the basic phone functions. Examples are global positioning, connectivity and the much contested multimedia.
SONY and ERICSSON have seen these potentials years back to form a joint venture for Entertainment Unlimited.
SONY then introduced their WORLD'S FIRST to a basic phone like the WALKMAN, CYBERSHOTS, ETC.
For all you know, without SONY there in the playing field introducing new concepts and innovations to an otherwise boring calling device... OUR MOBILE PHONES WILL BE ANOTHER BORING "POTS" (primitive old telephone system).
Once again SONY introduced another WORLD'S FIRST... THE COMMERCIALIZATION of "IMX060PQ", a new type 1/2.5 CMOS image sensor of the "Exmor" series, the industry's highest pixel count (12.25 effective megapixel resolution).
"IMX060PQ" is designed to meet the increasing need for advanced image quality within mobile phone enabled cameras".
With the introduction of that another word's first, all other phone makers will be doing their homework around-the-clock to catch up.
SONY'S leadership on innovations makes our world of mobile phones more exciting...
MUCH CREDIT IS DUE TO SONY in particular and SONY ERICSSON in general.... because without those challenges... all of us will be feed by Nokia with THOSE BORING BASIC CALLING DEVICES.
