Apple launched the iPad mini (2026) last week, with an OLED screen and the A20 Pro chip. If you were wondering about the rest of the lineup, Apple is allegedly planning a wave of iPad updates for the first half of 2027, according to a new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
Three models will reportedly be part of it: a new entry-level iPad, an iPad Air with an OLED display, and a faster iPad Pro with a vapor chamber for cooling. Gurman also says you shouldn't expect any new iPads to launch in the second half of 2027 at all.
The current iPad (2025) came out in March last year with the A16 chip and 6GB of RAM, which isn't enough for Apple Intelligence. Its successor should fix that, since Apple's own code has revealed its main specs - the A19 chip, 8GB of RAM, Apple's N1 networking chip with Wi-Fi 7 support, and the C1X modem for sub-6GHz 5G in cellular models.
The iPad Air 11 (2026) and iPad Air 13 (2026) arrived in March with the M4 chip and 12GB of RAM, but they're still stuck with 60Hz LCDs. Their successors will finally switch to OLED, which is in line with a previous report claiming Samsung Display will supply the panels. There's no word on the chipset, but the M5 seems like the obvious candidate, though that's just speculation on our part.
As for the iPad Pro 13 and iPad Pro 11, they've been around since October 2025 with the M5 chip at the helm. The next iPad Pro's vapor chamber should help it sustain high performance for longer, and back in October 2025 the same source said the 2027 iPad Pro will get a vapor chamber and the M6 chip. Apple has since brought the M6 to the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to see it in the next iPad Pro too.
