Apple introduced its new Maps with the release of iOS 12 but has not updated all regions of the world with the new features. These features include 3D landmarks, improved views of parks, buildings, airports, shopping malls and offer the new Look Around feature. In addition, the new version provides more road coverage and improved and faster navigation.
The latest countries to get the new update are Germany and Singapore, with the latter being the first Asian country to receive the new Maps. Users in eleven other countries are already using the new iteration and it's believed that France and Monaco are next on the list.
Since Apple Maps' debut in 2018, the service now covers about 18.4% of the Earth's landmass and provides coverage to 8.5% of the world's population (673 million, to be exact). Despite being launched in 2018, the company started collecting data eight years ago.
I'd have thought Japan would be the first Asian country, but I guess Singapore is smaller and thus easier to make maps for.
Just wondering why is Germany and Singapore first. Are they bigger priorities over the US & China or what's the reason for the preferential treatment?
