Google introduces ADB Wi-Fi 2.0 for faster and more reliable connections

If you are a mobile app developer, then you certainly know about ADB – the Android Debug Bridge. However, normal users have found uses for it too – some use it for things that the normal UI doesn’t allow (e.g. disabling certain apps, running scrcpy, etc.), others have used it for big data transfers (instead of doing it over MTP).

Well, whatever your use case for ADB is, you’ll be glad to hear that Google just introduced Android Debug Bridge Wi-Fi 2.0. This new version reworks the three core components of the system to make it faster and more reliable.

First is the ADB server. With the old version, the ADB connection would be dropped when the network configuration changed or when the device was turned off. Google replaced the old mDNS stack to make connections more reliable.

Second is the ADB Daemon. The old mDNS would occasionally drop connections between your computer and the Android device. The new one automatically disables connections when your computer and device are connected over an untrusted network and then re-enables them when you are back on a trusted network.

Finally, Android Studio offers better discoverability. After you enable wireless debugging on the device, it should appear in Android Studio’s Device Manager.

With all these changes, Google reports that ADB Wi-Fi 2.0 offers 66% faster connection speeds (for 90% of connections) and auto-connection rates are 32% higher.

ADB Wi-Fi 2.0 can be used with phones, tablets, wearOS watches and Android TVs. Follow the Source link for details on how to get started.
