Honor Android Rumors

The Honor Magic V will be the company’s first foldable and will arrive on Monday, January 10. It’s an ambitious horizontal foldable – it’s set to be the first with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset – but aside from a few teasers, Honor has kept the specs mostly under wraps. Leaked info offers a sneak peek at what is coming next week.

The Magic V will have a 7.9” internal display, an OLED with 2,272 x 1,984 px resolution (this is a square-ish 10.3:9 aspect ratio). This display will have a 90 Hz refresh rate. An official teaser video hinted at a gapless design, which is the next major evolution in foldables.

There is no selfie camera on that internal display as far as we can tell, but there is one on the 6.45” cover display. This one is also an OLED panel with a not-too-tall 21.3:9 aspect ratio and an even higher refresh rate, 120 Hz. The selfie camera will have a 42 MP sensor (f/2.4 aperture), according to the leaked data.

The camera setup on the rear will feature triple 50 MP sensors, including a wide module (f/1.9) and an ultra wide (f/2.2). The third module will be a “spectrum enhanced camera”, whatever that means (it doesn’t sound like a zoom camera).

The Honor Magic V will measure 160.4 x 72.7 x 14.3 mm when folded and 160.4 x 141.1 x 6.7 mm when unfolded. This is around the same size as the Huawei Mate X2. The Honor foldable will weigh about the same too, 293g.

That’s with a 4,750 mAh battery, a bit larger than the battery in the Huawei and faster to charge too at 66W. The exterior will be available in three finishes – a glossy black, a white with stripes and an orange faux-leather back (which we also saw in the official hands-on image).

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset will be paired with 12 GB of RAM and either 256 GB or 512 GB of internal storage. It will run Android 12 with MagicUI 6 out of the box, the latest OS skin by Honor, which will presumably feature some foldable-focused features.

All of this won’t be cheap, though. Rumored prices suggest that the 256 GB model will be CNY 14,000, while the 512 GB model will go up to CNY 15,000. That base price converts to $2,200 or so – double what the Xiaomi Mix Fold costs (CNY 7,000 currently), same for the Oppo Find N (CNY 7,700), but it is less than the Mate X2 price tag (CNY 17,800).
