When Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo back in September, it said Apple Pencil support would arrive "later this year". With the foldable only going on sale this Friday, and Apple usually releasing its bigger software updates in December, it looked like Duo owners were in for a bit of a wait. Thankfully, that's not the case.
According to a tipster on X, Apple Pencil support is included in the iOS 27.2 release candidate that rolled out on Monday, and it works. iOS 27.2 is expected to be released on or around Monday, October 26, so if you managed to secure a launch-day pre-order for the iPhone Duo, you'll only have to wait a few days.

There is a catch, however - the Duo only works with the Apple Pencil (USB-C). No other models are compatible, so if you own an Apple Pencil Pro or an older Pencil, you'll need to buy the USB-C one, which costs $79 in Apple's US store. Apple says you'll be able to take notes, sketch, or mark up documents on either of the Duo's displays.
On a related note, Apple also reportedly plans to bring Reachability to the iPhone Duo later this year. On other iPhones, this lowers the top half of the interface so it's easier to reach with one hand, but on the Duo it will bring the left or right edges of the screen within reach with a tap instead. There's no word on which iOS version will add it yet.
