I think it is due to the Custom duty. Since June India levies higher service tax and custom charges hence the higher price. May be I'm wrong but that is my understanding.
Nevertheless, Apple always priced their products on the higher side and that is the way they differentiate from others. It is their strategy. It is like Samsung's flagship product which also costs similar but not that much though.

Only in authorised shops they could sell it for such price points. Individual sellers needs to make minimum reduction of Rs 10,000 - 15,000 (around $250) if they wish to sell it to individuals

the iPhone 6s carries a tag of INR 62,000 ($955) are you kidding me !!! this is extortionate.. i would prefer to stick with my Iphone 5S for a while.
