Akinaro, 09 Jul 2016Actually no, I compared it's lack of REAL usefulness to using Minecraft as a teaching platform... moreWhat I think is that somehow the algorisms created by the learning AI can be translated into other areas, like robotics or maybe or real scenarios, if you think that just because the "playground" of this project is the World of Minecraft this would be "useless". I think that the possibilities are given by you. In your case this project in your hands wont have any future. So, just let the experts do they job. :D
Capt. Charles, 09 Jul 2016How about project almanac?I like that movie mate.
Xz8441, 09 Jul 2016I seriously think the point of the article totally flew over your headActually no, I compared it's lack of REAL usefulness to using Minecraft as a teaching platform.
Such projects are not that new, but beside hype and some side effects it doesn't provide any useful results that could be used in future.
You can check other project like that where they tried to use game to teach AI... And beside learning how to play it and gathering other really basic methods of understanding and behavior modes... It was not use full at all.
My point was focused exactly on that.
You can download it and try by yourself, and you would see that its really cool project but it lack any real benefits for future use, because it's not a movie world and most of ai systems that we have need really heavy preparation and learning procedures for specific work that its made. You can gather lots of data if it would "play" minecraft, but after that I can ensure you that it would be useless for any other work.
I'm not programmer but I read opinions from people who "know-how" and that what exactly they say, it's cool but not usefull.
I would love to see funny videos of AI doing stuff compilations
Its the same idea as teaching kids science and constructions using minecraft. And what you would teach them?
Fake gravity, unrealistic materials structure? hilariously bad and unrealistic survival model? Weird ideas like cutting rock using wood? Teach to jump about 10m down and survive without any consequence?
As far as Minecraft for some people is fun, it should be seriously not consider as an teaching platform. Someone say that legos are the same! No you ldiot its not the same! it use real gravity, materials and teach that you cant build using unlimited materials.
I heard what kids think about materials, gravity and "survival skills" kids of my friends play it all the time, and its frightening.
Its not platform to teach anyone even if its simplistic, because after that you would need to teach them AGAIN about reality and laws of it.
