How to tell an Apple fanboy in public next time - watch them wear sunglasses and fingering the air.

AnonD-540969, 20 Aug 2017Sony started AR long ago...Yes, I have had 2 Sony phones before (though I am not an all-out Sony fan). The key differentiator that Apple could work on is that AR does not remain static like in the Sony camera app (or even Snapchat). I am imagining something like, on my birthday, friends with Apple devices send a virtual cake on my table, which I am able to "see" through my iDevice.

Even so, like I said before, I would wait for Android OEMs to copy it, and buy it in a "copycat" Android phone rather than buying another phone with stupid iOS ever again.

Lol its hilarious the amount of ignorance in this comment thread. It's not just getting AR on the phone, which many have already done. However it has all been limited as the platforms did not support AR fully, or developers had to figure out things on their own without tools from Apple.

Apple's ARkit provides a platform wide support for AR including tools, for developers, which means that AR will be handled in a uniform manner across the platform. AR apps, it can safely be concluded, then will simply explode on iOS.

Most leading tech blogs agree that Apple has a significant advantage with the introduction of ARKit. If Android is to keep up, Google has to shift significant resources to it, but they are as of today, behind Apple in this.

Here we should look at the bigger picture.... making the useless tech applicable and actually usefull in real world, and like it or not Apple has the power and influence to sheak the industry for the next breaktrough.

If Sony didn't made an excellent focusing system for the Z5 series, I'm sure that even the S8 models would have turtle slow focusing speed.

And same is through with AR - Sony's one of the very first to have it on smartphones, but they don't have enough resources to introduce them to the society, which otherwise, would've made their appearance bigger to the community.

Lol most probably because Sony have some of the worst management in the world for a large corporation. Former glory still makes them think they are the 'apple', arrogant as hell. They have the brand, tech, and innovation to easily become an industry leader, but somehow it's always the competitors who takes the lead. AR you listed is a good example, they had AR tech since the PS2 era, yet they failed by being too ahead of time. Now that the big guns are all jumping in, Sony once again falls behind. Typical.

Apparently there's some fanboys in action in gsmarena lately.

This article just sounds like "Apple AR is great because it has large market share"
…I can't find anything to give them credit for.

Sometimes gsmarena even praise Apple's sales figure while in reality its market share is going down.

And then apple did it all after this. Or it only got pushed because if them...regardless of the steps taken before them.

This image is exactly what will keep Apple afloat for years. And yet a lot of us here severely downplay it.

Specs alone does not always sell a phone - cultural impact does. There are far more casuals (like me) than tech geeks.
