I want to buy a new Xiaomi phone but I' ve noticed recently that most of Xiaomi's midranger phones are out of stock or comming soon. So the most resonable choice I'm left with this period is the Redmi 5 plus in my opinion. If the company is bulking up that much according to the article, does anyone around here think I should consider waiting for a month for a better model in midrange?

I am one of those XDA guys in person & all do I helped with the development for the Mi Max that I own it's the same unified kernel with your RN3 that we are talking about. I use same nickname over at XDA.

        Best regards.

Merwyn Fernandes, 06 Apr 2018Then what's the use of warranty ? If you have to pay.You must know that warranty is provided only for limited period, for 1 year. If after that you decide to visit official service center, you have to pay for parts or service. If anyone is too bothered about costs, they may avoid costly charges of official service centers and visit nearby small unofficial repair shops within own budget.

Also, if a damage is done by owner even within warranty, then service center will not bear cost for that.

These are common-sense points, don't know how can you expect "always free" service under any circumstance from brands. Even Apple has limited time warranty despite being costliest in the market.

My previous comment was to denote service charge is bit higher (may be to my taste as knowing replacement cost and work needed to replace it). Again the service cost charge is quite subjective to each person as i personally felt replacing it myself and save 2/3 of cost asked.

P.S: My RN3 has burnt its charging chip using Mi's own powerbank (2i).. So for the takers, please be cautious using it as powerbank supports QC 3.0 where RN3 doesnt. And Xiaomi's own kernel is quite incapable of resisting voltages effectively (learnt from XDA users)..

AnonD-738179, 06 Apr 2018Cellphone warranty is 1 year. After that u have to pay for service and sparepart. There is no mention of whether the phone was older than 1 year in the original comment.

So it may or may not have been in warranty.

Since he said that it was the first time he went to service center I assume the phone was still in warranty.

And if so why was he charged 700rs and the repair was not done for free.

In this case what's the use of warranty when your still being charged.

The point i was trying to be is.. The charger board usually very simple component (contains barely regulator chips and connector) and it doesn't require much of service either. For them, the board costs lesser than 100 INR (procure high numbers) and service might costed less too.

and about rental AC-rooms.. bit out-of-topic, do an average Joe worry about it during his 5 mins stay at the place?? umm.. The point coming back is profit margins and wait time for small component replacements that's all.. I am no hater to Xiaomi, still happy with it.

If Xiaomi can improve in camera section than no doubt 120m shipment easily can achived.

From where would they recover cost of employing engineers there? Rentals of air-conditioned place in so many areas.

I suggest you visit Apple or HTC or Sony service center for parts replacement and then frame your opinion if Xiaomi is costly or cheaper

Well they ended last year with 96m so they certainly will ship more than 100m this year with they grow rate even 130m is a conservative estimation. Not bad for a either year old company.
