Anonymous, 04 Jan 2019I don't prefer to use the ARM for taking photograph... I use a TRIPOD :phahahah! nice wordplay!
This is good news. Most often the limiting factor for better dynamic range in photo and video was the processing. Hopefully computational photography can finally start challenging 1inch point and shoot cameras and entry level DSLRs. I hope we start seeing 14-bit for RAW and better implementation of HEIF for HDR. Also video can easily go past 12 stops with correct HDR implementation (and preferably in better codecs than 8-bit 4-2-0 H.264).

I hope we get a choice to choose between HDR and normal mode, or it gives us two images - HDR and normal. Sometimes, we want dramatic effects. If only camera companies would adopt this technology.
But how does it compare to ambarella, the revolutionary leader to low power quality consumer video? They announced 8k drone chip at ces 2017. I have expect an energy version maybe this ces. They have had low energy 4k for a while. They are the ones to beat.
Thus is not very revolutionary. If they could put higher quality prores and prores raw compression on it in 12 bit HDR, that would he revolutionary. At least 200-300 mb/s h264 12 bit HDR 4k (half that in h265).
if shot with an arm and without arm technology, the results of the photo are not exactly the same.
I guess this is similar to the secret behind Apple's Smart HDR algorithm, which allows a very wide dynamic range for video recording
Not being an Apple fan, but I've never seen a camera phone that managed to expose the sunlight correctly and still with a well-exposed foreground as good as the iPhone XS/Max
