Samsung Smarttag and Tile do it the same way. You can't put full fledged GPS trackers in these devices. It's the only way to do it, and it's very clever.

GDRP doesn't care. That is a law that prevents corporations from doing this without explicit, annual consent by the user.

The point is, this smells like a massive GDRP breach to use Bluetooth in that way. All without explicitly informing the users about the change.
