Google's new Fitbit Edge fitness tracker offers a screen and up to 7 days of usage

Google has unveiled its latest fitness tracker, the Fitbit Edge. Positioned between the Pixel Watch 5 and the Fitbit Air, the new tracker offers a more affordable and lighter alternative to the smartwatch while adding a display over the screenless Fitbit Air.

The Fitbit Edge sports a 1.34-inch AMOLED display with always-on functionality. The tracker measures 11.5mm in thickness and features an aluminum case that weighs 17.7 grams without the band.

A physical button on the right side of the case lets users navigate the interface. Unlike the Pixel Watch 5, the Fitbit Edge does not run WearOS. Instead, it uses a custom tile-based interface inspired by the Pixel Watch, with glanceable complications.

The interface supports Google Maps, media controls, call notifications, quick replies, alarms, and timers. It also displays essential health and fitness information, including step counts, weather, sleep, and heart rate.

The Fitbit Edge supports more than 50 exercise modes, along with real-time guidance, GPS tracking, and automatic activity tracking.

For health monitoring, the tracker features red and infrared sensors for blood oxygen (SpO2) measurements, electrical sensors for ECG readings, a PPG optical heart-rate sensor, and a far field skin temperature sensor.

The Fitbit Edge is powered by the Ambiq AP5 MCU, paired with 64MB of NOR flash memory. It also carries an IP68 rating and is water resistant up to 50 meters.

Google has equipped the tracker with a 65mAh battery, which is claimed to deliver up to 7 days of battery life under normal usage.

The Google Fitbit Edge is now available for pre-order in select regions, priced at $180.

It comes in Matte Black Aluminum with an Obsidian band, Satin Silver Aluminum with a Fog band, Satin Pyrite Aluminum with an Olive band, and Champagne Gold with a Canyon band.

Google is also offering a Stephen Curry Special Edition, featuring a Satin Pyrite Aluminum case and a special band. This variant is priced at $220.

The Google Fitbit Edge will be available for purchase starting October 27.
