Sony has announced the LYTIA 720, a new 50MP stacked CMOS image sensor designed for mobile devices.
The Sony LYTIA 720 measures 1/1.56-inches and features a 1.0μm pixel size. It uses Sony’s proprietary Ultra High Conversion Gain (UHCG) circuit technology, which is claimed to improve low-light performance by reducing random noise by up to 50% compared to the LYTIA 700.
The new sensor also combines UHCG technology with Hybrid Frame-HDR (HF-HDR) to achieve a dynamic range of 100dB. The sensor also supports 4K 60 fps HDR video recording using single-frame HDR technology.
According to Sony, these technologies enable higher-quality still images with better detail retention in shadow areas and reduced highlight blowouts when capturing high-contrast scenes. The images are also said to closely match what the human-eye sees.
Sony says mass-production shipments of the LYTIA 720 will begin early next month.
Yeah, given that they haven't made a new sensor with the same tech, I'm speculating that they haven't been able to lower the cost/improve the yield of manufacturing a dual-layer transistor sensor yet. LOFIC is likely more cost-effectiv...
I meant to say type 1/1.12, not type 1/1.28.. My bad. I was thinking of a LOFIC version of LYTIA 901.
