Weekly poll results: the vivo X Fold6 is hot, but its price can singe your wallet

Weekly poll vivo

As if foldables weren’t expensive enough, the skyrocketing costs of memory chips raised their prices even further – and that’s a problem for the vivo X Fold6. Not just for it, of course, the other foldables that it is competing with are in the same boat.

Still, even among those who want a foldable phone, the largest contingent is people wishing for a price cut. In last week’s poll, we listed several price points for the X Fold6 from around Europe. Alas, its launch came too late to participate in the Prime Day sale this week, but some discounts will come.

That said, don’t expect major cuts – we’ve been tracking the prices of the vivo X300 flagships for months and they never got deep discounts. Part of this is vivo’s strategy – the company wanted to build a no-compromises flagship with top-notch performance and endurance, plus a powerful camera despite the slim build. In other words, this is a “money is no object” flagship rather than one that trades on value for money.

The vivo X Fold6 will certainly face some competition from the new wide foldables. That said, the market is in flux – consumers are still making up their minds about which design is better. The number of people looking for a book-style foldable (that wasn’t the X Fold6) was almost even with the number of people that want to try out the newfangled form factor.

There were some concerns brought about the change from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 that powered the vivo X Fold5 to the Dimensity 9500 Super inside the new model. Also, some feel that Android apps could use improvements to better support the usual sizes and aspect ratios brought about by foldables.

Availability will be an issue, but a fairly minor one. With durability mostly solved, high prices remain the biggest hurdle to the adoption of foldables.

Still waiting for foldable with equally durable inner screen as an outer screen so GG victus plus or better. Untill then foldables are nothing but very expensive othervise useless gimmick better to have tablet and a phone.

Not the specs and the price are concerning. Timing is so bad...
