I updated my N97 to v22 via FOTA on July 1, when news of a new version broke out online. I'm in the UK, and I have an unbranded and SIM-free (generic) N97.
Before I did, I checked on the Nokia website (nokia.co.uk) to confirm but it still said that v21 was the most recent for my product code. I ignored that and still carried on with the update via FOTA, so now my N97 is on v22.
Well, I finally figured out my product code. The sticker under the battery lists a 12-character alpha-numeric string after the word "Code." When I enter this 12-character string, I keep getting prompted to enter a valid code. On that page, all of the examples of a code were 7-digit numbers. I then entered just the first 7 digits of the code and it finally told me the latest version for my code is 21.2.045. I guess I'll have to wait before the latest update is available to me. Bummer.

Try checking on a Nokia website for another region or country.
If that still doesn't work, then you could check through using your phone. Key in *#0000# on the numeric keypad. It will show you details about your N97 (except the 7-digit product code, which you'll find on the white sticker at the back of the phone when you remove the battery). Press on 'Options' and select 'Check for updates'. The phone will try to connect to the internet via the network your phone is on or through WiFi (you'll be able to choose how to connect). After the update system checks your phone, it will tell you if your N97 already has the most recent software (or firmware), or if a new version is available for your N97. If a new version is available, then you could update via FOTA (or Firmware Over-The-Air). Like checking for an update, the phone will again connect to the internet and you'll be able to choose how.
good...
Cijo, 04 Jul 2010http://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-and-software/software/device-software-update/can-i-updateI tried to enter my product code on the Nokiausa web site, but it is not valid. It keeps asking for a valid product code. I tried to check the nokia.ca web site, but there is no page that allows me to check my product code to see if there are any updates. I just tells me to use the PC Suite or Sofware Updater.
KING, 04 Jul 2010hi n97 users can i know whats lathers case did u use for ur n97?I just use a Roots leather case that clips onto my belt for my N97. It's the one with the magnetic flap. It's interesting the comment about the magnetic flap triggering the camera. I did notice this occasionally, probably once a month when I pull the phone out of the case. It's nothing serious as I just exit the camera mode on the rare occasions that this happens. So far, I have not accidentally snapped a pic.

Feel free to choose among the many leather cases out there, but I would recommend avoiding those with magnetic locks or clips, especially when they would be placed near the back of the phone or next to the camera. The N97's camera has this sensitivity to magnets. The magnet would trigger the camera to start even with the lens cover is up, and you would not be aware of this while the phone is inside the case.
I went for a soft pouch instead.

i just updated my firmware to 21.0.101 OTA now now and then hard reset my phone as ... moreMy N97 skipped the 21.0.101 update and went straight for the 22.0.110 version.
The only improvement I've seen so far is the increase in the C memory after the update. I used to have 13mb before the update, and now it has gone up to 27mb.
I would like to think that the update has enhanced the memory management for Ovi Maps, which is now stored in the D memory.
More on Ovi Maps, it was good that the update came with v3.03 instead of v3.04 which has a confirmed bug - it stops you from backing up all files on the F memory (or on the micro sdhc card, if your N97 has one)
Also , Another question .,..
has ny one noticed any improvement in the camera quality .,,,.
it used to show a lot of snow/noice while taking pics before..
