Samsung Smart wearables Announcement

Samsung's Galaxy Ring was announced back at MWC 2024 but it took nearly five months until we got its full specs, pricing, and availability details. It may be the smallest member of the Galaxy family, but Galaxy Ring is arguably the most impressive gadget at today's Galaxy Unpacked event. It’s the culmination of years of R&D in health and activity tracking and is shaping up to be the next big thing in the world of health monitoring.

Samsung Galaxy Ring comes in Black, Silver, and Gold colors. It’s available in US ring sizes 5-13 all of which are made from grade 5 titanium alloy. The design of the ring is concave with the sides tapering into the middle. All of the health tracking sensors, batteries, and charging pins are on the inside, hidden under a layer of epoxy resin.

Galaxy Ring is IP68 rated and 10ATM waterproof so you can wear it with confidence in all weather conditions and even during swim sessions. The smallest size 5 Galaxy Ring measures 7.0 mm x 2.6 mm and weighs just 2.3 grams while the size 13 version comes out to 3 grams.

Samsung will ship out a free sizing kit with each Galaxy Ring order and you are then advised to wear the sample on your finger for at least 24 hours before confirming your final choice. You can also try out the different-sized rings at Samsung retail stores and pick out the right one on the spot.

Galaxy Ring pairs over Bluetooth LE 5.4 and will work with any Android smartphone running Android 11 or later alongside the Samsung Galaxy Wearable app. The good news is that users will not be required to purchase any additional subscriptions to access their health and activity data.

Galaxy Ring also supports pinch gesture controls. You can pinch your thumb and index fingers while wearing the ring to control your Galaxy smartphone with the ability to take photos or dismiss alarms. It’s also compatible with Samsung Find and can use its built-in LED lights to flash when misplaced.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Ring tracks your standard array of health metrics including heart rate via its optical PPG sensor and skin temperature thanks to the built-in sensor. Samsung is also betting big on sleep tracking with the Galaxy Ring thanks to its low-profile design which makes it comfortable to wear 24/7. Galaxy Ring’s sleep tracking features an active sleep score with snoring analysis and additional metrics like movement during sleep, sleep latency, heart and respiratory rate.

You also get automatic workout detection with live heart rate monitoring and heart rate alerts. Samsung is also incorporating an energy score which takes into account your activity and sleep scores for a combined daily score out of 100.

The smaller-sized Galaxy Rings (sizes 5-7) feature 17 mAh battery cells which are rated at up to 6 days of use on a single charge. Sizes 8-11 get 18 mAh batteries which are also rated at 6 days of usage while the size 12 and 13 models feature 22.5 mAh batteries and up to 7 days of usage.

Speaking of charging, Galaxy Ring has a nifty charging case similar to what you’d see on a pair of wireless earbuds. It boasts a 361 mAh cell which should provide up to 20 full recharges for the smaller ring sizes.

Samsung Galaxy Ring is priced at $399/€449/£399 and will be available for pre-order later today. Open sales are scheduled to tip off on July 24.

Until I will be able to pay with it, I'm not interested. Proper nfc and we can talk.
