Kyocera DuraForce Pro 2 goes through torture test, makes other smartphones blush

Kyocera Android Misc

Not many people know Kyocera but those that do, know its phones are rugged and made for testing environments. It's latest phone - the DuraForce Pro 2 isn't very interesting in terms of specs but is built like a tank and has quite a rare feature to boast about - a sapphire screen.

Some tech companies cough Apple cough only claim to use sapphire (like the lenses on recent iPhone cameras) but actually use strengthened glass that scratches like regular Gorilla Glass 4/5/6. But Kyocera really has put a sapphire screen (and camera lens cover) on the DuraForce Pro 2.

In his video Zack from Jerryrigeverything is able to scratch the 5-inch screen on the Kyocera DuraForce Pro 2 at a level 8 with deeper grooves at level 9 on Mohs Hardness Scale - way beyond regular smartphones that begin scratching at a level 6, 7 and 8. Check out the full video below.

Kyocera's DuraForce Pro 2 is a Verizon-exclusive smartphone that has IP68 water proofing, covers the Military Standard 810G for drop, dust, shock and extreme temperature protection, has a Snapdragon 630 chipset with 4GB of RAM and runs Android 8 Oreo.

Got this phone about a week ago. It indeed appears to be generally rugged. Every time I access the MicroSD card (you must remove a simple plastic sealing cover for this), a screen warning appears to make sure the plastic cover is clean and securely s...

And also it have nothing special worth 500 more bucks. Better CPU for what??? A 0,2 sec faster response? Or to load same app as Kryocera in a 0,5 sec faster time. Or a little bit better camera??? Its a phone not a proffesional camera. Ac...

Agreed about that. Kyocera is pretty good for people on a budget. The Samsung Active series is not quite affordable for the average person.
