the durability of the keyboard is much much stronger than my xda minis and treo650.it needs strong press down the keys to get a letter. my old 650's keyboard looks better and bigger, but doesnt last long at all.depend on my experience i believe p990 keyboard will last 2 to 4 year with intensive use. the only complaint is its too small,it's ok for me but definitely not suitable for giant thumbs.
hi guys this phone's camera autofocus works amazingly well.totally unbelievably quality of macro shots.i been taking pictures of normal fax sized papers containing small small small font of words, and the results are so clear words shown.im shocked!the macro quality depends largely on the flexbility of autofocus,it works just dam dam well.i got a nokia n93 and its macro quality is just crap crap!
I had used p900 , K750i and right now I have P990i . Realy am upset from this phone , I never pleave that . It very weak compaire to other . almot 1.5 year waiting and finaly what . low memory , 2 MB camera , and so many disadvantage .....
I had reading you oppinions about p990 and I agree, the worst thing they did, (SE) change the screen size. They had to find out other way to light the keyboard, You have to know that was the main reason for change the keyboard over the screen, to take the light and iluminate the keys. But the best of the p910 I think it was the screen size. I know the phone has very good features, but, I can enjoy it at 100%, because, when you record video, it's not good, the pictures are not good too, if you wan to view a power point presentation it's no possible, you can't see drawings, etc.
It sound good, all that they offer but it not work like they say.
Then I thought that the p990 would be better, but unforunatly, I was wrong,
I hope they make changes because mainly,
It is very expensive, it should work very very good, and conserv the size screen to be different or the only one.
Anyone know if it is possible to switch on the speakerphone before the call is answered. I used to be able to do it with the P910 but the only way I can figure how to do it with the P990 is to wait till the call is answered then say hold on and go into more and switch on transfer sound to speaker. Anyone bothered by this also?
Hi to all.
I just restarted the fone and the vj singh golf game dissapeared too. I can't see the game on the preinstalled applications in the memory card. Also tried the SE support site. How can I download it and reinstall it. Thanks everyone!
Visited O2 this morning (14/10/06), and as of stock update of yesterday it is still due for release on 23/10/2006.
Fingers crossed - eh?
Waited such a long time and about to return my second phone - both times phone froze on 3-4 occasions and loudspeaker non existent battery life not as good and not as user friendly. No way near as impressive as their last model. so its back to Nokia for me I think
Is there softare available for this phone to make use of VoIP? Where can I find it?
Ive heard that they are going to use this phone in Terminator 4 - its set in the distant future the actual time when the phone is actaully released on 02 in the UK! The year 2029..
no, in UK, this phone is not out on O2 yet, now, is only exclusive to Vodafone and Carphone warehouse, i got mine from CPW
Does anyone know of a data base application like microsoft access for the p990?
thanks for the compliments. so kind.
yes, the P990i can accomodate a 4G memory stick easily. most of the PRO Duo range in this size are sold out in most outlets.
you may like to try downloading a sample programme first and then see what happens. but i suppose its fine to experiment.
have fun, cheers
Good features added to a phone like this... i was just looking at a Notebook,PDA,Digicam, and Mp3 player hybrid when i saw this... i was just in doubt of recomending this to my friends here because of the software problems.. if SE could address a major software repair/upgade that could fix all bugs completely, then it will be the top-notch phone for all business and feature freaks, mostly SE fans in philippines...
am a previous Sony P900, P910 owner and just picked up the latest greatest P990. I have been using the Nokia E61. The Nokia E61 has been a great Web-browser & e-mail (Blackberry Substitute) solution. The screen plays AMAZING quality. The phone side is just OK. For some reason the call waiting tone is very low and with the general phone interface being just just ok. Overall, the E61 is very usable and functional unit for me.
Well, I was expecting to be blown away by the P990. The first thing that I did not like was that the web browser seemed slower and the emulation of regular web pages was not as nice as the E61. The P990 has many adjustments (zooming, fit screen...) but there was no setting that made viewing the web as nice as the E61. The phone side was cooler than the E61. As you would expect from a SE model, you can customize with pics, music all very nicely. The camera which is the big marketing difference seems fine - for a 2 MP camera.... Does is look as nice as my 7 MP Canon? No. But it is decent. I am told the video playback should BLOW the E61 away, but that was not my experience. First, the screen size is smaller. While the P990 may bave mmore colors, the reducion in screen size is much more noticable than the increased number of colors.
All in all, my ideal unit would be a mix of these two units. I would take the screen size, web and e-mail funuctionality of the Nokia E61. I would take the phone operation, OS interface, screen resolution and general customizabilty from the SE P990.
I hope this is helpful for any other phone junkie's outthere.
As an Ericsson / Sony Ericsson supporter for 7 years I hate to admit but they've got it wrong. I was so annoyed that I recently sent Sony Ericsson an email after opening the box of my P990i as the first thing I discovered was that they have changed the configuration of the power and other connectors meaning that it now no longer fits with any of my old 'P' phone accessories.
Within the email I pointed out that as a user of both the P900 and the P910, I had a lot of old accessories for both phones and obviously this was why I continued with the 'P' range. The fact that they changed this power configuration meant I couldn't use any of my old accessories and that I couldn't can't understand why they did it.
Surely the majority of the early adaptors are going to be people like myself who have had at least one of the other 'P' phone range and accessories. It may be a short term way of making people buy new accessories but because it's so annoying they run the risk of losing long term loyalty.
Put it this way - was annoyed enough about it to search on the web to find this site and write this and if I'd know about this issue I wouldn't have ordered the phone, there are other manufacturers products that get far better ratings and given I have to now buy a new suite of accessories I may as well have started afresh. I thought Sony Ericsson would at least be logical enough to keep things consistent for their existing user base.
I did ask Sony Ericsson how I should go about changing speaker phones, car sets and other accessories and what I was supposed to do with the old ones. I also asked when they planed to fix this design fault. The reply I got was....
"We are sorry to hear of the problems that you have experienced with your P990i . We wish to assure you that Sony Ericsson do enjoy an excellent reputation for both quality and reliability and that your experiences are quite unusual. Unfortunately, Sony Ericsson, along with other manufacturers cannot eliminate completely the possibility that we need to change designs and adapters with new hardware."
Unusual!!!! Did they read my email ??? Everyone will have this problem so I don't know what is unusual about it.
Aside from this design fault (and the fact that I have to change car kit, speaker phone unit and other charges) I have been using the phone for 2 weeks now and it is appalling. The worst phone I've had in 5 years. The battery talk life is no where near 9 hours, I'm lucky if I get 4 phone calls. The functionality is clunky and difficult to find settings etc, the camera works when it feels like it, the casing has been cheapened so it feels like it's going to break, the button configuration is poorly designed so it's not easy to answer the phone (the answer button toggles with the reject button so half the time you miss hit it and hang up on people), for the life of me I can't get the email function to work (nor can my IT team).
So what's good about it? Well (when it works) the camera takes a good picture and the blue tooth syncs well with my PC but frankly it's supposed to be a business phone and I don't care about the camera, the things I care about are all the key things like phone and email and these are terrible.
My advice - as an Ericsson / Sony Ericsson supporter for 7 years I hate to admit but they've got it wrong - DON'T buy the P990
