All three Camon 50 phones look alike, but the Camon 50 Ultra goes an extra step further by featuring two curved Gorilla Glass panels. The two-tone design on the back with a P-like shape remains, as well as the extra slim profile and plenty of ingress protection certifications.
Let's start with that. The Camon 50 Ultra is IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K rated, meaning it is dust-tight and protected against splashes, water submerging, and pressurized water jets. Furthermore, it is compliant with MIL-STD-810 standards for transport, temperature, and humidity shock.
The front of the Camon 50 Ultra is a curved Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while the back is a similarly curved Gorilla Glass, most probably version 7i. The frame, while thin, is incredibly solid and feels like it is made of metal. It's plastic, though.
The back panel and the frame have a matching matte finish. They are incredibly smooth, fingerprint resistant, but offer minimal grip, if any. That is why we recommend using the bundled case, which is equally cool with its faux-leather feel and the stylized CAMON letters.
We do like the design of the Camon 50 Ultra and we think mostly people will appreciate its thin profile, clean yet cool looks, and matte finish.
Now, let's take a closer look at the Camon 50 Ultra.
The front is a home to the 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with high-resolution, high refresh rate, and HDR10 capabilities. It has reasonably thin and even bezels, and a pretty small punch hole for the 50MP AF selfie camera.
There is an under-display optical fingerprint scanner, which works fast and reliably, and it never failed us during our review week.
Above the screen is the earpiece, which together with its top-facing outlet pulls a double duty as a stereo speaker.
The back has two camera islands - one inside the P-shaped part with three separate camera rings, and an outer ring for the 8MP ultrawide camera next to it.
The long camera housing reminds us of the recent Galaxy A phones. It contains the 50MP primary, the 50MP telephoto, and some sensor of unknown purpose.
As we established, the 8MP ultrawide camera is on the right. Below this basic shooter, flush with the back, are the notification LED and the LED flash.
The frame of the Camon 50 Ultra is quite feature-rich. The two Dolby Atmos-enhanced speakers are at the top and bottom, each accompanied by a microphone.
The top also accommodates an IR blaster, while the bottom has the USB-C port and the dual-SIM tray.
The left side of the Camon 50 Ultra has a textured AI key, which you can further configure from the Settings.
The standard lock and volume keys are on the right.
Overall, the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra is a thin and lightweight device with mostly smudge-resistant design and easily likable looks. It is well protected against the elements and then some.
The only issue one might have with the Camon 50 Ultra is with the grip, or the lack of it. But thankfully, Tecno has bundled a pretty awesome case that will improve that a lot.
