Which chipset the Galaxy S27 Ultra will use has turned into quite the saga over the past few months. Back in July, the Ultra was said to be getting a Snapdragon chip globally, while the rest of the lineup would use the Exynos 2700 outside of North America. Then in early September, insiders claimed that Samsung was building Exynos 2700-powered S27 Ultras for Korea and Europe.
In early October, Samsung reportedly started mass producing the Exynos 2700, with the decision for the Ultra still up in the air, and a few days later a new insider tip claimed that the S27 Ultra would only be available with a Qualcomm chipset. The middle of the month brought a report that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 was running too hot in Samsung's testing, which Qualcomm promptly denied. And just last week, the Exynos 2700 reportedly beat Qualcomm's chip in internal tests once again.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra
Today, Ice Universe has chimed in with the latest installment, saying that so far there are still no signs of the Galaxy S27 Ultra using the Exynos 2700 in Europe. South Korea, on the other hand, remains uncertain, according to the tipster.
If that's right, European buyers will get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 in their S27 Ultras, while the Korean model could still go either way. Obviously, nothing is final until Samsung makes it official, and judging by how this saga has gone so far, we wouldn't be surprised to see another twist or two before then.
