The new iPad mini's battery capacity is no longer a mystery

Apple iPadOS

Apple unveiled the iPad mini (2026) on Monday with an OLED screen and the A20 Pro chipset, and while it told us the battery is rated at 18.9Wh, it didn't give its capacity in mAh, in typical Apple fashion. Today, that's finally been revealed thanks to the tablet's listing in the EU's EPREL database.

According to the listing for model number A3596, the new iPad mini has a rated battery capacity of 4,900 mAh. That's a bit smaller than the 5,078 mAh (19.3Wh) cell in the iPad mini (2024), which isn't exactly surprising given that the new model is almost 1mm thinner and close to 40g lighter.

The listing also says the battery is rated for 1,000 full charge cycles before it drops to 80% of its original capacity, and that it should last 78 hours per charge in the EU's standardized test cycle. It isn't user-replaceable, and Apple specifies a charger with at least 20W of output power.

Elsewhere, the iPad mini (2026) gets an energy efficiency class D, a repairability class C, and a D for drop resistance (it survived 57 falls without defects). The listing also confirms the IP67 rating, scratch resistance at level 4 on the Mohs scale (which is a minimum, not a maximum, it's worth noting), and a promise of at least five years of software updates.

The iPad mini (2026) starts at $699, €749, or £699, pre-orders are open now, and the first units will reach buyers on November 6. If you're interested in its chipset's performance, check out its Geekbench results here.
