A new Counterpoint Research report revealed that global PC shipments totaled 57 million units during the July-September period (Q3). The figure represents a 21% decline compared to the same time last year, with all major brands experiencing dwindling shipments.

The main reason behind the decline lies in rising component costs, with DRAM and NAND memory chips being the main contributing factors. These components, in turn, made laptops more expensive, which naturally led to lowered demand as users put off replacements and purchases.

Looking at the global PC market share, Lenovo maintained its lead with 15 million shipments for the period and a 26.3% market share. HP came in second with an estimated 10.3 million shipments and an 18.1% market share. Dell was third with 7.6 million shipments and a 13.3% slice of the market.

Apple was one of the few companies that increased its market share, which now sits at 9.8% following steady demand for its MacBook Neo model. Cupertino managed to ship an estimated 5.6 million units of its laptops during the period, though that figure is down 11% from the same time last year. Asus also saw a rise to 9.6% market share as it reached 5.2 million shipments for the period and an impressive 19.4% rise compared to Q2 values.

Looking ahead, indications show that shipments will continue to drop as we enter Q4. According to a Counterpoint analyst, the market will contract to 27% by the end of the year, with flat growth expected in 2027.
