Anonymous, 22 Jan 2015Seriously, they're keeping the huge bezel under the screen for nothing other than the logo? ... moreIt's not only for the logo. There are components running the screen which they need to hide under there, because the cavities for the speakers take up that space. They could flip the screen upside down, but that will make it not look like an HTC device, compared to their other models.
Thanks for the input re: camera quality of the M8 vs. 1x+ (I still did not upgrade, too) was surprised to know from user experience that the former sucked compared to an 8mp camera (1x+)! quite frankly, should there be a 1x+ v2, i.e. faster processor, higher storage, better battery, I will upgrade asap. But we are in January 2015, and my 1x+, December 2012.
Seriously, they're keeping the huge bezel under the screen for nothing other than the logo?
I have never seen a feature so complained about in a device and not changed in the next version. Even the most recalcitrant manufacturers listen to their customers sometimes. Not HTC though.
I guess it took them two fails with the ultrapixels to get the message. Now they're going to have to fail with the bezel twice also.
And what's the point of keeping the screen size a more reasonable 5", but then having the huge bezel and an enormous, almost phablet, device anyway? It's the worst of both worlds.
Ugly!!! Htc u will fail.. Sony will probably overtake you now with z4.. Sammy is fixing their mistakes
Honestly HTC is going no where that usuless black bezel with the HTC logo. I hope the get rid of that.
Stan, 21 Jan 2015The problem with Ultrapixel camera from the start was due to a very small sensor. Sure, The pi... moreThat makes no sense at all.
That was the size of the sensor used because it was a newer technology for them and to phones and actually took up more space as well as far as I know.
The size of that sensor is not the technology itself and world have increased.
And actually 1.1um is closer to average than 1.3um and 2 umin comparison is a huge difference. Especially in a phone.
So simply bringing a newer more updated UP sensor that was larger and more around 8-12mp would have been a fantastic idea.

It is anything but tightly packed.

And it sells with less then it better start being advertised as priced as a midranger. This is the M9 2015 Flagship device. It's all or nothing. And just because nay sayers like you say everyone only needs this it that does not make it right and limits how many more years it will last.

Dan, 20 Jan 2015I'm sooooo glad HTC decided to up the processor to an 810 and keep the resolution at 1080p. ... moreIf the 801 can almost handle QHD and the 805 handles it very well then the 810 wouldn't break a sweat.
why not a 20 mp camera or 21? is it necessary to use 5,8,13 or 20.7?
i am an old Fan of HTC (since HTC Desire HD), and i do think that this brand is the premium of android devices.
but there are a few improvements that can easily be made to a flagship of this caliber.
-on screen buttons sucks (my wife has an M8) move the buttons to the normal position under the screen.
-camera can be upgraded in multiple ways. like more megapixels, OIS... (the camera is the reason i am still using the HTC one X plus and did not upgrade to M8).
-finger print sensor... yes i know it is not what defines a phone and many people don't care about it ... but when a company prices it's phone above all other competitors, it should have everything the competitors offer.
-keep the speakers and try to improve them (if possible). the audio of the M8 is great. one of the best in the market if not the best.
improve the battery life. the M8 can now be used (with 4G and web browsing) for up to 18 hours. but it can be improved on the M9.. and i think it should.
i am waiting for the M9 to change my phone... and i hope it is up to my expectations
Nope. That was an m7.

If this is the real thing, then I am really dissapointed. I am still using my M7 and did not liked hte M8. I was really hoping for something new in the design...
is it just me or is the m7, the phone of 2013, still better looking than this assymetric phone with s useless black bar, and don't lie about circuitry under there, they had a year to think it out. they could of made it 4.7inch with hardware keys
