Anonymous, 06 Sep 2015That's like saying the graphics card in my PC is fully powered by the motherboard because they... moreBeing connected to the SoC and power supply are 2 different things... Don't get mixed up and confused... Everything gets connected to the SoC so they all get instructions on how to operate... Everything also get connected to the battery as it's the main power source...

If the SoC drains less energy it's gonna improve your devices usage time to some extent...Unlike the S810 which just heats up and drains your phones battery...

How long the usage time improves is yet to be seen in up coming S820 devices...

Oh, Snap HeatDragon! Its finally back with SD820. We need cooling capability not more efficiency.

AnonD-342374, 05 Sep 2015Actually everything on a smartphone is somehow connected to the SoC and it's the SoC that make... moreBut half the energy drain from the SoC would not result in 100% more run times.

I would assume that the screen takes most of the power, then maybe the SoC, and then RAM and Memory.

Yes DDR3 and DDR4 even as low power version eat a lot of battery power.

Actually everything on a smartphone is somehow connected to the SoC and it's the SoC that makes everything to work... Hence if the SoC uses less energy that should result in more usage time...

          It's all logic...

I can't believe this! Who would be stupid enough to interpret this??
So, if you reduce your electricity expenses by half, do you reduce your overall expenses by half too? What about car fuel, water, newspaper, won't they cost the same as before?

A negative point of this new era is that anything can go viral, and anyone irrespective of education and intelligence, can access the internet.

Honestly even when you're using an embedded PC Board as a headless server, twice the efficient hardware doesn't mean half the power bills, there's always more stuff connected that sucks wayyyy more juice.
The websites should honestly just take a voluntary online course in logic if nothing else.

double eficient means that when prossecor eat 10% from your battery will now need 5% in use and the rest of energie will be used from display wlan and other chip in phone >>> if u take a phone with same hardware and just change the prossecor that will be few % better and not double

Twice as efficient with double the performance would mean the same energy drain with double the bang.

The efficiency is performance per watt, while double the performance with the same efficiency means it drains double the power.
Double the performance per watt without increase in performance would mean double the life (providing the rest of the phone does not consume power).

Just for people interested in this.

It's 2x more efficient to consume your battery.

Look, "twice the power efficiency" doesn't --even-- mean the --CPU-- uses "half the power as before". It means given the --same-- PERFORMANCE LEVEL (IPC), the power usage of the SoC will be half what it was. But if this SoC is 50% faster than the previous chip, it will still use 50% more than that "half" value, so still 75% of the original Chip. And that's before you take anything else into account like 4K screen, etc.

So the new Snapdragon is gonna be energy efficient like 801 and 805.

Why does this need a separate post? Obviously. Also, it's either twice the performance or half SOC power consumption.
