What you are linking to seems to measure the area of contact on the screen not pressure. Wouldn't someone with large fingers and someone with small fingers get different readings if they applied the same pressure under the system you linked to?

If someone thinks 3D touch is a Gimmick. Then what about 5.5inch when galaxy Note brought? And dual lens Camera HTC M8 brought? And Water Proof XPERIA? Every thing is a gimmick when cx doesn't realize about usefulness. Some of them got standard as time goes. Even retina display is a gimmick When iPhone 4 got released. And people loved it. And that is the first step on right direction for entire Smart phone industry.
And last our grandparents still thinks Smart Phones Are Gimmick.
