Anonymous, 20 Oct 2016Means 1/1/2018 or 31/12/2018?u will receive android 8 (in 2017) & 9 (in 2018) and last 9 updates (lets say 31-12-2018)
but not 10 anymore.
Nishru, 20 Oct 2016I don't know...it may be just me, but I'm not impressed with what Google has to offer this yea... moreThat's pretty much majority. Pricey, sizey, ugly.
Reduced 2-year support comparing to 4 years of Apple is just an abuse towards customers.
If it gets the next two os updates, and then security updates for another 12 months, that's effectively 3 years of having the latest software. Which isn't that bad, although even Samsung seems to be doing that.
2018!? Should be at least until 2020...
Google, you messed up this year.
Im wondering if the 2 years has something to do with Verizon, limiting a update period sounds like something they would do. i wonder if the VZW pixels will get stuck after 2 years while unlocked keeps going.
Damn it google, I'm going to buy an iPhone. or a nexus 5x, that way I can install custom roms for further versions of android
why only till 2018? why do they expect us to buy a new phone every 2 years..i don't think the tech and UI upgrades are as significant to warrant a new phone every 2 years
Ya I know its dissapointing to Google Pixel series end user but 4 years OS updates from iOS on iPhone 7 series cant be : 1.More fast charge like QC 3.0 version 2. Makes Display better like QHD S-AMOLED 3. cant makes battery bigger over 2500/3000 mah 4. cant improving VR UX 5. cant makes camera better than 12MP on Pixel phones 6. cant more easily to sharing data over many platform 7. cant get unlimited cloud data service 8. cant adding 3.5mm hardware port. How about your opinion?
I don't know...it may be just me, but I'm not impressed with what Google has to offer this year. Especially when they were giving you the same kind of deal for half the price, in a form of Nexus. Pixels have nothing to impress, just decent devices like many of them around, that's all. I hope those won't sell well, so they can see the error of killing Nexus.
If you spend that much on a phone, you should get updates for 5 years.
Otherwise it's more cost effective to buy a budget/sub $150 phone (most are good enough for the majority of tasks these days), even if they don't get updated.
I'm a true Nexus fan. But as many people mentioned here two years of system updates is too short. OnePlus has become such an interesting manufacterer that gives premium phones for non premium prices. The Next OP will be faster, cheaper and will have regular updates as well. I can't shell out this kind of money now knowing I'll be able to buy something in 6 months that will be more interesting and cheaper than Pixel. And Assistant is not worth it for me to spend this kind of money. Oh well...
Seriously? They think two years is something special? Talk about planned obsolescence.
What's more, every Nexus phone has gotten at least two year of updates, so this is neither new, nor a big deal. And anyway, are there any phones that don't get at least two version upgrades?
Google should have just announced: We will treat your incredibly expensive Pixel phone as completely average compared to other phones, for upgrades.
I'm not an Apple fan, in fact I really don't like them, and usually I think of Apple as be a huge abuser of planned obsolescence, but Apple seems to be the only company that actually supports their phones for a reasonable amount of time.
The Pixel is turning into such a disappointment. I say that as someone who has only had Nexus phones.
wow 2 years, that means 2 years from now this high end spec, high end phone cannot handle the newest version of android, thats just wow
thats how fast android can make hardware useless
LOL, 20 Oct 2016What adds to Apple's resell value & overall perception that people have is the fact that y... moreYou are right in what you say that most people do not keep their phones for longer than two years but what about the people that will buy this handset in 12 months time? They will only have updates for 12 months! I really hope by then the handset will drop in price! 2 years is ridiculous!
Android is Open Project, Not its exclusive features given on its phone....
This why galaxy j series is so popular, cheap price so every os you could buy.
