Symbian can be coded for phoned with keypads
The problem with ... moreIf you had any idea of what was going on inside the company you'd know this had everything to do with the age of the Symbian OS and the time/cost of development for new releases.

Also, with Stephen Elop being former Microsoft, he halted all development on Nokia OS' being developed internally, except Windoze (Nokia had 3: Symbian, Asha and Android on the "X" model) and layed off the majority of the staff during his tenure (which led to the formation of Jolla phone and the Sailfish OS).
Viruses? Haha - So funny.

I think you meant Microsoft, Windows is the product of Microsoft. And nope. Microsoft went to nokia and paid them for exclusives. Nokia CEO mentioned it was a mistake and was one if not the cause of their downfall and would likely still be in the field manufacturing phones under the Nokia brand, not as HMD Global, if they started with Android in the first place as soon as the smartphone wars began.

Symbian can be coded for phoned with keypads
The problem with ... moreI will say it again, whatever comments Nokia made at that time to stop Symbian were nothing but the decision taken by Stephan Elop in their Board meetings.

Symbian can be coded for phoned with keypads
The problem with ... moreNo.. It is you who is wrong.. Symbian by the end of the iteration the Belle FP2(Donna) touchscreen interface was fluid and fully functional.. I still am enjoying it on my Nokia 808.. So Symbian is indeed touchscreen capable.. In fact Symbian UIQ is one of the first touchscreen OS in mobile phone.. Symbian is advanced and lightweight at the same time.. Symbian provided built in task manager and file explorer since the very first version.. In Belle FP2 symbian already supported SDXC with capacity up to 128GB in exFAT format in 2012 while android is still stuck with 32GB SDHC.. Ever heard of hot swappable memory card? Only symbian is capable of that.. Symbian app installation can be done fully in memory cards so that the phone space will never be full like android.. Heck if the app is already installed on the memory card you can just plug it in and symbian will display whatever app there is on the card.. Android could only daydream of being that advanced..
Still the best touchscreen OS goes to Meego/Maemo 6/Harmattan on the N9.. It's gesture interface is futuristic even to this day and it can multitask up to 60+ apps all on a single core 1Ghz with just 1 GB of ram.. Any flagship to this day can't multitask like the 6 year old N9.. Proof of how advanced Nokia was
If you've heard about Ericsson, they've been in telephone network business for 140years.
Shawn , 28 Jul 2017Nokia signed a deal with the devil. A smartphone market monopoly player know as Apple. The biggest monopolist is google

Nokia went to Microsoft as Windows is phones are not prone to viruses
In the same ways as Android who require a monthly patch.
Your insistence that there would be Symbian touchscreen phone as you can see is wrong

Nokia is not only the giant cell phone maker at that time but also the largest network maker for almost 80years till now!!! Who created 1G,2G and 3G and 4G... NOKIA!!!!! That is why the largest network maker has INSANE profits of money than APPLE whenever it goes successfully...whereas when it comes to phones, it lags badly!!!
Anonymous, 28 Jul 2017 yess they didn't dominate the market guessed what they keep on releasing phone each in eve... moreActually they dominated the market! And no Future Phone / smartphone had something against NOKIA.

The problem is not just ms. Google wanted symbian dead, Apple wanted symbian dead. That system was not just way better, was also way private. This corporation had to do something against. So, they send Flop, a pe**e of s**t.
History, 29 Jul 2017Ok you're partially right
Nokia has a lot of patent it developed during Symbian
Nokia were t... moreyou know, the real reason of Nokia's downfall at that time was the Mr. Trojan (Stephan Elop) the bug who came from Microsoft and became Nokia's CEO.
Elop just came to Nokia only to help Microsoft to get entry into smartphones lines, as they wanted More clients to use Windows Mobile(WP OS at that time) which was only used by HTC, and a few local phonemakers.
Elop first dumped Symbian, by pulling back the team involved in Symbian development.
then they announced it as a Dead OS and moved to Microsoft(Elop's dream come true)
If they haven't had that virus ELOP at that time, they would never have dumped symbian(Father of all SmartPhone OS) & developed it more so that it could match current day requirements.
Today latest flagship phones are just wasting resources like 6GB Ram, even 8GB Ram on SmartPhones because Android is resource hungry. (cmmon we can't have 10-16gb ram on phone now). This trend have to stop.
If only Symbian was developed until today we would be getting pure SmartPhone operating system which uses limited resources.
well that's a forgotten story for now. and we have to live with Android now, as [for now] no one is going to develop a proper smart phone OS or modify android properly, so that it starts using resources optimally.

Nokia has a lot of patent it developed during Symbian
Nokia were the ONLY Smartphone manufacture
Nokia sued Apple years ago for patent infringement Apple use without consent
Apple agreed and paid Nokia huge royalties as every IOS device uses Nokia patents
shortly after Apple paid Nokia Apple then sued Samsung twice etc for the Galaxy device 'copying Apple iPhone
This new agreement is due to the licensing agreement running out and Apple didn't renew
Nokia drop Symbian as on phones with keypads, Symbian works but on touchscreen its is litreally 1000 of man hour to code for a single instruction, hence the move to Microsoft
Nokia went to windows simply to avoid the viruses on Andriod, but that relationship did NOT work out as Microsoft can make PC/ laptops but phone software.... NO
good. Nokia should buy Xiaomi and Blackberry to step into the crowded android market
Anonymous, 28 Jul 2017One manufacturer capturing all the market share is not good at all. And I have a Nokia feature... moreguess you don't understand about basic stuff like.... transistors, resistors
AnonD-679970, 28 Jul 2017It was reported in May that Apple now has $250 billion in cash. $2B is peanuts for them. But not for shareholders...
Good!!! Finally, Nokia is on its way back into the imperial limelight and giving Apple an embarrasing spanking is nothing short of amazing. That only proves that all these "smartphone company kingdoms" have a flawed sense of so-called innovation. It's just common sense really, Nokia and Motorola were the forerunners of the mobile device age...and most of what these hotshot companies now just copied most of the tech from the original two giants. With all the blabbermouth about innovation and creativity, Apple is just another one of those leeches. Go Nokia and Motorola...and I hope, Blackberry will join the resurrection game!!!
