Apple has a patent on the method in which to do it. Samsung also has a patent on a method in which to do it Which they filed before Apple's.
But they're different methods so they're different patents.
So there's nothing stopping people doing it.

"The process of bending/folding the iPhoneÂÂ’s display back on itself is not cheap, meaning most phone makers simply cannot afford to do it at the price points at which they operate. Not so with the iPhone X and its $1,000 asking price, of course."
They can do it but it's too expensive
"Pei also explained why we are seeing Android devices with notches, like the iPhone X, but that also keep a chin at the bottom of the display, unlike Apple’s device. Pei says that this is all down to the way the display is driven, with Android phone makers keeping the electronics for the display in that chin area. Apple keeps its electronics around the back of the display by bending the display itself, something that Pei says is a costly way of avoiding a chin, something most Android manufacturers – including OnePlus – can’t afford right now until and unless someone comes with a way of doing it in an affordable way."
My question is : What's the difference between the notch (the narrow one) and this screen hole? It's not like you could use the screen area on its corner. Well it's relatively more beautiful, but functionality-cons-side, it's the same.
I doubt the Nova gets kirin 980.
And with p20 series rear design being used on many phones, it's clear the p30 series will look altogether different.
Huawei, after Samsung set the date of the event for their Infinity-O device a week before Huawei's: "OMG, now what? Leak it to the press, maybe people will still believe we were first..."

It's a display-bending technique. And whether we like it or not, the tech IS patented by Apple and Apple can sue companies for copying it, because its what Apple do best: sue companies. xD
Not bad at all, specially for the expected price. The display hole approach is just right over here. The P20 Pro based back panel design also looks somewhat attractive. Looks like a decent mid-ranger to me, with the specialty being it running on a flagship SoC...
And those complaining about the chin don't realize how small it is. It only appears big because the side and upper bezels are almost non-existent, which emphasizes the bottom bezel.
That hole seems bigger than status bar, I hope its hiddeable like the notch if not than atleast it does not interfere with games and movies

Jaeger, 05 Dec 2018You do understand chins exist because the electronics of the display are located there, do you... moreUsing flexible display will increase the overall cost of the mobile phone and not all mobile phone companies can use flexible display in their low-cost mobile phones. That's why iPhone X costs so much. Nothing to do with patent.
And the iphone x is NOT a bezeless phone, the OPPO Find X is.

As far as I know, Apple is the only phone maker who managed to design a chinless phone due to a proprietary tech that allows to bend the display at the bottom. No other phone maker can do that, because said tech is patented by Apple.
