its too early to celebrate anything. I got nothing against Oppo but even if they managed to develop the first under screen camera, we must wait to see if the quality of the camera is any good first. no one will take an under display camera over a regular one if the UDC takes bad pictures.
DavidRegalJnr, 26 Jun 2019Samsung came up with it though..nice trysend the link here then, why so shy?
TheGoldenMellifluous, 26 Jun 2019Yup. Sony patented the under-screen selfie/front-facing camera back in March 2012, not long af... morethe patent was for the camera to be used to detect gestures, not to take pictures.
Anonymous, 26 Jun 2019Oppo Find X = Find 10, not Find Ex It's Apple not X but 10 :)
cyber, 26 Jun 2019too much effort for such a useless thing like sefie cameraIndeed !
Anonymous, 27 Jun 2019A bit scary knowing you can't see the camera but it can see you.But the camera will be visible through the screen when activated..
The end of notch draws near!
However as im not comfortable with spying cams, i still prefer pop up solutions, just to be sure I'm noone is watching.
TheGoldenMellifluous, 26 Jun 2019Yup. Sony patented the under-screen selfie/front-facing camera back in March 2012, not long af... moreWho cares about sony patented or not since there is not even a prototype? This is like a motor company patenting a flying car that can go 500km/h which never happens. The truth is oppo beat sony in the race for underdisplay selfie camera. Well done oppo!
indlvarn, 26 Jun 2019No, it's not better, it makes phone more heavy, thick and rotating camera is much more sensibl... moreBut the image quality is excellent. They've been given excellent marks for selfie camera performance.
Also, please don't forget that Asus has basically given you a bare bones handset, not too costly, not too researched. Otherwise, there's not much reason to make it thicker.
TheGoldenMellifluous, 26 Jun 2019Yup. Sony patented the under-screen selfie/front-facing camera back in March 2012, not long af... moreWell, Huawei has had 1000+ subcontracts with different Japanese tech firms for supplying different electronic components, so I am not even surprise to see a second Japanese company other than Sony to supply under display camera to Oppo.
Its fantastic that oems like Oppo are releasing their new tech so early and forcing the bigger oems to speed up their own development; but the fanboys on here claiming everyone else is inferior to Oppo just because they didnt release it first are hilarious. No one cares who came with the first camera on a phone, first touchscreen etc. The only thing that matters in the real world is who has the best components at the best price at the moment. The image quality of the gen 1 and 2 UDC will be garbage compared to visible sensors without a doubt. And almost none of those praising Oppo will even get the phone that this will come in
Ahlan, 26 Jun 2019As you already said, you always say nonsense.... Oppo has been working on under display camer... moreIm not seeing an actual product right now, nor im seeing it on the dozens of millions that Samsung sells to call OPPO a success.
Ahlan, 26 Jun 2019Edit: "Fixing typo" you always say nonsense....
Oppo has been working on under display camera... more"While Huawei (another chinese company) made a better one and all tech journalists, were allowed to test it and all of them were impressed. "
They showed the prototype to the journalist but THEY DIDNT ALLOWED them to even fold it!
What's the point of this announcement? Nothing new has been announced, so it's moot.
vga, 26 Jun 2019How else do you video chat then? I don't take selfies, but I like video calling :/right, maybe hes not into it, hes not using it at all, just back cam.
Zenmaster, 26 Jun 2019Lol... Sony patented it like 6 or 7 years back. It's Samsung who copied from Sony in the first... moreYup. Sony patented the under-screen selfie/front-facing camera back in March 2012, not long after Sony bought all Ericsson's mobile stakeholder in Mobile division. Here's link as evidence back from 7 years ago :
The patent was ahead of the time where differentiation of designs was still a thing between OEMs. Now, with the technology already evolved farther and faster in 7 years difference, I could guess 1-2 years from now, feasibly Sony could implement it on their smartphone in the future. But still, I was impressed enough Oppo did the first execution of it, marking the next important thing in the smartphone industry. Great job, Oppo!
