It's TSMC and their fabs that uses US tech. Huawei needs to find a fab that uses cutting edge fab processes without any reliance on US tech, which they will find eventually. Bad move strategically for US, short term gain for Trump if he get re-elected on his anti-China platform.
Hence Mediatek would be the only way for them to keep going. Huawei could ask them to make a custom-spec'd SoC that suits their need just like they do to Sony for their camera sensors.

The president of Huawei clearly said, Huawei is not Toshiba that was violently attacked by USA. Toshiba was behind a country that has been suppressed and enlisted by the United States; behind Huawei is the support of a dignified and independent country. We need to build our ecosystem, and build our operating system, our ecological services, our chips, our equipment. System capabilities must be built . For us, sanctions are painful, but at the same time they are a major opportunity, forcing us to upgrade our industry as soon as possible. We only did chip design and did not engage in chip manufacturing.
SpiritWolf, 07 Aug 2020Kirin is the best. Proud P30Pro user. Definitely not. Kirin might be better than Exynos but its not better than Snapdragon yet.
Anonymous, 07 Aug 2020All smartphones Soc are ARM based they can’t.Actually they can, since Huawei has ARM licence.
The other issue might come if nVIDIA buys ARM and that would be 100% US based, also it might end Mediatek and Exynos reign since Trump can forbid them to produce it more.
Huawei better to fabricate Kirin 1000 to 3nm since there’s no more.
Never Huawei is very well established and have created own brand value... Only kirin chips etc may stop

The asian market it's too big. It's a matter of time that we see the most popular apps in the AppGallery.
Anonymous, 07 Aug 2020Very doubt it. Huawei is rich enough to manufacture their own chipsetsand being rich is enough to make good chips? ofc not.
they need new chip suppliers.
