Anonymous, 08 Aug 2020Exynos are Samsung teach not Chinese first of all and all ARM technology are based in American... moreARM uses no US tech. That's already been confirmed. It's TSMC and their fabs that uses US tech. Huawei needs to find a fab that uses cutting edge fab processes without any reliance on US tech, which they will find eventually. Bad move strategically for US, short term gain for Trump if he get re-elected on his anti-China platform.

Hence Mediatek would be the only way for them to keep going. Huawei could ask them to make a custom-spec'd SoC that suits their need just like they do to Sony for their camera sensors.

The president of Huawei clearly said, Huawei is not Toshiba that was violently attacked by USA. Toshiba was behind a country that has been suppressed and enlisted by the United States; behind Huawei is the support of a dignified and independent country. We need to build our ecosystem, and build our operating system, our ecological services, our chips, our equipment. System capabilities must be built . For us, sanctions are painful, but at the same time they are a major opportunity, forcing us to upgrade our industry as soon as possible. We only did chip design and did not engage in chip manufacturing.

The other issue might come if nVIDIA buys ARM and that would be 100% US based, also it might end Mediatek and Exynos reign since Trump can forbid them to produce it more.
