I think this is going to be a big player without Elop's influence...i mean N9 is real good everyday device, it just beat any competition...it's not about multi cpu, it's about making things work right and simple.
and this will soon include all of QT, that is also for nokia belle, carla etc...
Here is my theory Nokia:
- Secretly develop the MeeGo OS
- Do the above through a a seemingly 3rd party company aka Jolla Ltd
- take over the market with MeeGo well developed...
I sure hope my theory is right ... Go MeeGo & Nokia :p :)
Great News! Jolla have guts and good eye on Meego!
MS tried so hard to kill Linux many years and Nokia's investors didn't know nothing fell in the dump... An old, lazy, stubborn, attitude, arrogance company is time to collapse...
Annon, 07 Jul 2012For all the decisions (mistakes) made by Elop and Nokia and as a company for the past 3 years,... morethats a good one buddy....heeehe... the question is can they survive wit thepatent wars happening....?
well what if nokia's hands are tied and cant develop meego bec of eflops microshit...?
so the finns made an enginous plan to lay off their meego team and start their own company backed by nokia in secret... wout eflop knowing it? the finns know meego is a jewel... a perfect os with only three minor upgrades... imagine that...? its still on its 1.3 stage and look at its performance..... imagine what ... 2.xxxx can do.... hopeit all works out for this hero's
It'll be interesting to see if all the people crying for Meego actually support it. It will also be interesting to see if the wider population as a whole adopts Meego the way alot of the folk here think they will.
Thank God, im very very glad n happy 2 hear this! Jolla has saw that Meego is potential n has a bright future. N9 wont be an orphan anymore! Hurray! Go Jolla n go Meego!
One of the most interesting news in long time! As absolute MeeGo fan I am super happy for this kind of news. Nokia can do whatever they want, only this is important to me. Hope they come up with great design and build quality like N9 has. Will support them if they make good enough devices.

what wow, 07 Jul 2012Nice news but it's just a pebble in a huge ocean.
It's based on Moblin which is based on Fedo... moreThe bigger obstacle (if not the biggest) aside from funding will obviously be getting devs' support. Second to that will be OEM/ODMs. They'll need the established source desktop Linux distro ppl to get on board and a lot. I keep seeing repeatedly that MeeGo has enough but where the evidence for speed? Cut the BS, FFS decide on .DEB or .RPM or hell both and let's get the damn show on road.
And then there's that Tizen debacle?
I sincerely wish that Jolla will truly LEARN from its past mistakes and exceed expectations. Take ALL possible flaws from other competing OS/platforms and NOT repeat any of each' missteps.
Make a phone/tablet/mobile OS that truly melds well to desktop Linux core THEN assimilate to the established Windows/Mac environs. Figure this equilibrium out and voila this will win..huge.
Don't overpromise, overprice, under deliver and under spec as in the past. In current market standards, that will ensure instant DoA or relegate Jolla straight to KIRF faves.
I was so hoping something like this to happen after I read the news of MeeGo team leaving Nokia. And now I want to work with them, even for free. I want to be a part of that team.
Great card played by Nokia. Now they can develop MeeGo without facing any problems from Microsoft. They never let their R&D go with ease. If WP8 plan does fail, the sailing ship of Jolla will be reincarnated with Nokia, otherwise the development work will go on with confidential funding provided by Nokia.
Wow Jolla is like the "Nokia Underground"!
they should get and improve Symbian as well, And rub their success on Elop's face! :D
Best of luck!
Nice news but it's just a pebble in a huge ocean.
It's based on Moblin which is based on Fedora which is part of a big big Unix/Linux-like family.
just look here, I bet you'll eb amazed jsut how many operating systems exist. Android/iOS/Maemo/Meego are all just children of the original one called Unics(yes with cs not x).
