AnonD-973296, 29 Dec 2020what is astrophotography support? is that a feature in Gcamit is another version of night mode but takes a longer exposure time or more frames, kind of like a super night mode, and if conditions are right, for example low light pollution , not much cloud coverage, etc then you can get shots of the milky way, but in lovely noisy smudged horrible quality.
I have a google pixel but astro photography is turned off because it is pointless , just like google :-)
Anonymous, 29 Dec 2020Google smartphones don't have a manual mode. Another stupid decision.They do, through 3rd party camera apps.
AnonD-940827, 29 Dec 2020Just use manual mode then. Easy.! Google smartphones don't have a manual mode. Another stupid decision.

Apple's iPhone 12 ultra wide angle camera can capture long exposures (tripod) in the stock camera app as far as I know. So probably now Google's ultra wide angle camera can not compete with Apple anymore in this regard. So stupid.
Anonymous, 29 Dec 2020Google's behaviour is so terrible. They already removed the white balance presets of the ... moreAnd even if this still wouldn't work well, they could at least output a black and white ultra wide angle astro photo.
So that confirms the best Pixel is the fourth !
Google's behaviour is so terrible. They already removed the white balance presets of the Pixel 3a with an update.
Note that the issue might be not(!) the hardware, unless the lens suffers from too much vignetting. The ultra wide angle camera captures 16s exposures. This way the ultra wide angle camera captures significantly more light per photo than the astro mode of the Pixel 3a, which only combines 4s exposures (yes, I already took the hardware differences into account). An explanation could be that the lens suffers maybe from a huge amount of vignetting, but then they could still capture 32s exposures instead of 16s. Star trails are less visible with ultra wide angle cameras.
me.. no need for astrophotography
users report a problem on camera;
company remove camera entirely on next update.
feels bad man
Should have left it ON with a warning message saying the quality needs more work.
Apparently it sucked but it's not the right of Google to remove this feature. especially if it would be making a comeback later shall say ... On Pixel 5 Pro ? ;-)
