STE FAR 05, 26 Feb 2021IMX 800 would like to have a chat.Yeah, that's why I said "at least for now". If the rumour is correct and it will bring all the cutting edge hardware features that GN2 has, then IMX800 will be the best mobile image sensor a smartphone camera will ever have had, at least in terms of sheer specs.

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2021You do not need a sensor with a resolution of 108 megapixels in a smartphone at all, it is tru... moreThe sensor itself is so huge that dynamic range, noise, etc is taken care of.

Try turning off auto night mode on Pixel or IPhone, you'll see a mediocre mess of an image.

Big sensor wins any day.
You guys focus so much on the 108mp number that you forget the sensors size at hand.

Jacktackle, 23 Feb 2021When everything was going in favour of this flagship, they spoil it all by not sporting 108mp ... moreYou do not need a sensor with a resolution of 108 megapixels in a smartphone at all, it is true that they will offer a higher level of detail to a photograph but only up to that point, that is the only advantage of having a sensor with such a resolution, unfortunately there is no ISP with sufficient processing power that can increase the quality of other sections in photography such as dynamic range, white balance, noise management, colour or tone accuracy, night photography, etc.
And although it is true that you can make use of pixel binning and get a larger pixel size to improve performance in low light conditions or reduce the amount of data to process to get a higher overall photographic quality you have to be aware that this is not the true pixel size and therefore the result will not be genuine enough and also why do you think that other smartphones like the iPhones or the Google Pixel with their lower and therefore "worse" resolution sensors compete strongly with those other smartphones with higher resolution sensors? And with all of the above said how do you think it would be in the video department?

mario, 23 Feb 2021OMG. Don't go with Samsung sensors :'( Sony does a much better job with their IMX lineup.Sony doesn't offer a mobile image sensor comparable to GN2 in terms of sheer hardware specs, though. Technically this is the best sensor you can get on a smartphone, at least for now.

kiasunkiasi, 24 Feb 2021what's wrong with XiaoMi's quality? have you ever own and use XiaoMi before? person... moreIve had 3 Xiaomi/redmi phones ,and i could say that the build quality is above average if you are going to compare it with phones on the same price bucket. heck, the Mi 10t/ pro has now become the benchmark of flagship killers. You could have it side by side with the samsung s20 , and it will still comes up on top on performance.
