Unfortunately, the third generation of L-series is a disappointment, perhaps the L70 is the only worthwhile option here but even then there are a few areas which are worse than the second-generation L7II. The L40 has a smaller diagonal than its predecessor (given the resolution it may have positive or negative implications) and is otherwise similar save for the chipset which provides inadequate performance nevertheless. The L90 fails with the largest magnitude. Its direct predecessor had a HD display with sharpness rivalling Retina which has been reduced to qHD (540x960) which, in my opinion, is the worst compromise. Other than that, it has no merits over the L9 II OR even the original 2012 L9. Previous L-series models would also be preferred in terms of aesthetic quality over the current nauseating design of Samsung influence. At least the low-tier models now use Snapdragon 200 chipsets which are shared across the entire range save for the L90 and come with Android version 4.4.2. However, software versions are insignificant for most users when comparing the 4.x versions.
I read someone's comment here which is quoted "In your face Samsung S3 users! Next time go with HTC or LG, they know how to update old phones!". This is positively amusing. LG is notorious for abandoning their older devices, but it seems to have got better since the release of 4.4.
In any case, buying 2014 devices is not advised at this moment with adequately-performing devices of the previous year going down in price and the lack of upgrades which are worth their money.
Samsung Estonia announced in Facebook, that the Core II, Young 2 and S5 mini will arrive in august.

"..but it only sports a 1GHz single-core processor, 3.5-inch HVGA screen, and a 1,300mAh battery...", "All three devices will be powered by Android 4.4 KitKat..".
In your face Samsung S3 users!
Next time go with HTC or LG, they know how to update old phones!
Is it me or it has uncanny resemblance to the original Galaxy S?
Anonymous, 02 Jul 2014So while Samsung is releasing the S5 Mini with practically no improvements on specs at all, th... moreThey're taking us for fools, downgrading their phones like that.
People will still gobble it up all the same though.
goodluck on these devices...:D
For how compare Samsung with Nokia rember one thing Samsung is not Nokia because Samsung is titan slayer it slice before apple now it coming move out from his way
So while Samsung is releasing the S5 Mini with practically no improvements on specs at all, the Ace 4 will actually go backwards in specs, from 1GB to 512MB. Classic.
I really figured my next phone would be a Samsung. Seems I was wrong. LG is getting my attention.
another galaxy added to the existing galaxies...then fandroids will say this beats iphone 6 lol
Dooms awaits those pricings are like Nokia's N95 or N96, just before Nokia's doom. With those price they want to fight the likes of Moto???
AnonD-259916, 02 Jul 2014LG L40, L70 and L90 are far better than these garbageYa i agree any day........LG L90 better than core ii
Shame-Sung your time is over
Who in their right mind is still making single core "smartphones" in this day and age ? Also.. Dat pricing. Eugh. why would anyone pick the ace4 at that price when you got the more than decent nokia 525/630 or the moto E/G as alternatives ?
is samsung has gone mad....? why it is making so many low end devices like this and selling at higher prices...nonsense...?
who will buy these scrap things...?
Samsung u are drunk go home...
techlover1, 02 Jul 2014Compliments to Samsung! For the immensely choices of models! And to offer en excellent opportu... moreLet's play the card that most "fanboys" use: Chinese manufacturers offer way better specs on hardware at a comparable or cheaper price level, with a much better user experience.
But at least you can compare Android to Android in this space. Apple's hardware is technically behind most flagships, but still offers a superior experience, which is what matters in the end.
People should buy what works best for them, but Samsung is ripping people off with these handsets.
AnonD-92238, 02 Jul 20141ghz single core !!! What will someone do with that much of processing power !!My Galaxy S runs a 1Ghz chipset and struggles massively on 2.3.3, how much more will these handsets suffer on 4.4?
You will literally be dragging your feet.
AnonD-259916, 02 Jul 2014LG L40, L70 and L90 are far better than these garbageIn this context, Android is alike Symbian. It works on most hardware configurations, but the experience is vastly different.
Users don't buy these phones for their "Android" or "Samsung" status, they buy them because they are cheap and will put up with their flaws. Just like Nokia's Symbian and S40 devices which at one time flooded the market.
Given the restrictions we now have against pollution, I doubt Samsung will be able to sell this pure garbage in the western world.
