Right now you can't go to the cinema, so what if the cinema can come to you? Xiaomi just unveiled the insane Redmi Smart TV MAX with an enormous 98" screen. This thing is so big that its official product page includes dimensions for doors and staircases, so you can check if you can even bring it into your home.
The LCD panel has 4K resolution with 60Hz refresh rate and covers 85% of the NTSC color space. It supports HDR backed by 192 zone local dimming (with direct LED backlighting). A ninth-generation image engine packs a total of 20 image-enhancing technologies, among which is motion interpolation.
For sound, there are four speakers with large cavities plus Dolby and DTS decoding. There are three HDMI ports (one with ARC) and an S/PDIF output, so you can easily hook up external audio hardware.
The PatchWall software can act as a Xiaomi smart home hub • Wired connections
The Redmi Smart TV MAX is powered by an Amlogic T972 chipset (4x Cortex-A55, Mali-G31MP2), which is hooked up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage (eMMC). The TV runs Xiaomi's custom PatchWall software that's built on Android TV. It can also act as a hub for all the various smart gadgets that are part of the Xiaomi ecosystem (voice control is available too).
The Redmi Smart TV MAX can be mounted on the wall, put on a TV shelf or stand on tall legsSo, how much is it? Not much - the MAX will be available in China starting at 10:00 on April 9 for a price of CNY 20,000 or about $2,835/€2,610. That price is several times lower than most 98" TVs out there. Whether or not the MAX gets a global launch is unknown (but we're not holding our breath).
