AnonD-115391, 19 Apr 2017So I read the review. Some of my thoughts are similar. But not all. I got my S8+ as well today... moreWhat country are you from? Because I dont know any country that received the S8 on the 19th of April.

Perhaps you should look at the links you provided yourself and see how terrible the Xperia photos look, nice checkerboards there on the Sony samples. But, whatever criticism there is for the S8 samples, I blame Sony (IMX333) :)

S8 cam is same as S7, lack of field depth and detail that is overprocessed, heavy ringing due to too much contrast, but that seems acceptable in auto lowlight only, where it also has too much grain and lack of detail, not good color reproduction And manual capability is way below Sonys higer mpx sensors with rgb color sensor added.
AnonD-77443, 19 Apr 2017The camera MP race is well and truly dead. Cramming more MP on small mobile sensors (past a... moreYou could call it low light camera, but daylight stills and 4K sharpness went down even compared to generations before. It's not bad to have good low light capabilities, but on sony you get similar results in manual mode (because of auto got too much processing) and that with f2.0 .I also expect sony to come qith better results after few months because they change camera every half year, not like samsung same camera after an year. Mp race is not over, be it screen or camera, and sony shows its possible. I actually don't car3 about low light as I live through day, not night, mostly.
So I read the review. Some of my thoughts are similar. But not all. I got my S8+ as well today. A few things, which i surely not liked about review, or i would say, was biased:
- Fingerprint sensor issue. Much worse then mentioned. A real turn down
- Awsum screen. No complains
- Camera, pretty much same as my wife's S7E
- Battery life. Havent ran through paces yet.
- Looks, average. It is no where close to build quality of Xperia. My old XZ is way studier and better looking then S8.
- I like less beezels design, already having touch issues on edges. So, looks like more of a gimick till now
- Bixby. Would never use it. i am happy with google now. OK GOOGLE!
- Speaker output, average. Pretty much same like my Xperia but voice quality not better, offcourse xperia had stereo speakers
- Final words, good phone. But holding in hand, looks like a toy rather a phone. My XZ looks like a way better professional looking sturdy device. Will wait for Premium XZ as well before making final call if new S8+ will land in my media lab or my day to day phone.

If rumors are then true that Sony will come back to Z series, but I am quite sure that the flagship Sony phone at IFA this year will have much better competition. If history is an indication, Sony always brings their best at IFA (i.e. Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, Z5 family, XZ)

What about daylight? I'm pretty sure people are going to take more photos in those situations

Cramming more MP on small mobile sensors (past a certain point) adds noise and makes images worse (in basic terms).
As you can see, the 12MP S8, out performs the 19 and 23MP Sonys by a fair margin.
Perfection redefined, so we got the review now I can pre-order it

This is definitely an investment for me and I could not be more ecstatic to be getting it later on today.

Well at least latest are, with xzs finally being useful (no visible artifacts and noise, better corners, more hdr detail). From older only xperia x is sharp, is sharper than them all but without 4K and with artifacts. Also, sony manage to capture sharper 4K than samsung, not to mention more real colors. Kinda miss those 16:9 16Mp at least and somy is only one to have something similar. Its near to impossible t9 want from somebody f.ex. to go from 38mp to 12. Like where is it going...? 38Mp is sharp like hell.

Our beloved gsma will never give reports like this
Nice phone, but just don't like the curved screen. Hope note 8 has a flat screen version...
Soc 14nm to 10nm not quantum leap, can't expect efficiency like 28nm to 14nm.
Also 20 (really?) core GPU take a toll to battery life
Anonymous, 18 Apr 2017Yet, GSMArean didn't test it (the battery life is tested in 16:9 environments) which is exactl... moreAgain, you have missed my point. I agree that Samsung did wrong with the battery capacity being the primary concern for the S8/S8+, but the test gsmarena has conducted did not only measured video playback, it also measured many other thing, that the 16:9 format did not mattered! Things like 3g standby, 4g standby and calls and of course, the very important internet browsing with WiFi which is imo the most important factor. I do have a tablet and a 4k HDR TV, I don't watch videos in daily basis on my mobile and a I never talk more than hour, I live in a capital city, so I always have 4G coverage, I am a power user and I charge my phone daily, so long standby times doesn't effect me. I also have the S7 edge and was afraid that the S8+ will fail my battery needs, but it holds better on 4G handling and internet browsing, which my primary use of my phone, as I oftenly check new sites and various content during the day. Internet browsing test uses fullscreen and if the battery consumption was bigger, it would consume more, yet in Samsung's measurements, PhoneArena's and now gsmarena's test, in all scored better results than the S7 edge.
I am not impressed! A weird long thin/small display and the fingerprint scanner, camera smudger, is the worst placed ever unreachable far up on the back of the too tall screen!
Bixby and DeX are toys I would never use!
Camera and performance and batterylife are good enough just as they are on every flagship, and almost ever midrange and budget phone, from any manufacturer! Stereo crosstalk is not good enough for a this expensive flagship!
I think iPhone 8 will impress me a lot more than this S8! iPhone 7 already outperform S8 in most performance tests!
