Anomi, 01 Nov 2019Are you some seller of amazfit? :-)If you think I'm an Amazfit brand fanatic or somehow work with or sell Xiaomi/Huami/Amazfit products, I'm sorry to tell you NO.

I'm a no nonsense buyer and a very satisfied owner of an Amazfit watch (my first Xiaomi wearable). Have been an owner of 3 other brand smartwatches (not Amazfit) that are now all gathering dust because of pathetic 2-3 day battery life.

I thought I can live with and adjust to a watch that needs charging daily or every 2-3 days, but no, it's just a horrible real world experience. All that answering calls from the watch or replying to text from the watch became novelty features that were rarely used (stupidly difficult to reply to text on a small watchface and looking like a dork talking to your watch when other people can hear both you and your caller's conversations). Also, those feeds that you swipe on your watch from recycled smartphone apps that have been repurposed for watch use makes you look silly while draining watch battery. However, an almost one-month battery life? Priceless. Longer smart watch service life because of the infrequent once a month or so charging (unlike other more expensive smart watches that charge daily or every 2-3 days)? Priceless. Now that's why I say this Amazfit GTR makes sense both in form and function, as well as longevity - no need to replace every 2 years like your phone. A smartwatch is still a watch, that tells time, remember? You really like to replace it like your phone every year or so?

I have the 47mm stainless steel version of this Amazfit GTR smartwatch. And truly, it looks gorgeous and is very comfortable and light. Best of all, it allows third party customizable watch faces (beautiful, gorgeous, unlimited watchfaces from a vibrant developer community) and YES, finally a proper 'formal looking' smartwatch with an almost month long battery life - not in crippled power saving mode, but in regular use case scenario (notifications on, flip to turn on, heart rate, a few times with gps on).

I've had a full android 7.0 smartwatch in the past and despite it being a powerful standalone device with 16GB storage and 2GB RAM, plus the ability to take and receive phone calls and text messages (it has a sim slot), and ability to run almost all Google Playstore apps, the heft/heaviness and horrible 24-48 hr battery life really pisses me off. All those beautiful watchfaces, notifications, activity tracking and even the simple 'time telling' basic watch function gone in 48hrs! The 1-3 day battery life renders those smartwatches worthless for even just the basic time-telling and swappable watch face function!

For me, this Amazfit GTR NAILED IT. It should have been the direction Samsung's Tizen based smartwatches, Google based Wear OS watches and Apple watches should have taken, instead of making smartwatches too multimedia oriented, rehashed' phone app' ecosystem oriented, not to mention overly complicated with lots of redundant features copied from smartphones!

We already have smartphones for all that calling and texting and multimedia and phone app stuff! Smartwatches should be about gorgeous looks, lots of third-party customizable watch faces, extremely long battery life, and sports/activity tracking, alarms and notifications in conjunction with phone use. Smartwatches should not be a redundant piece of tech for calling, texting, multimedia consumption and recycled smartphone apps that look stupid and silly reading and watching in a small watchface, needlessly wasting the watch's battery life meant for more important tasks like time telling an being a customizable fashion accessory that doesn't have dead battery or require charging all the time.
The watch app ecosystem should be completely watch oriented, not some rehashed, repurposed, recycled smarphone apps that don't make sense in a watch. They make you look like a dork staring and swiping at your smartwatch all the time like someone who's strapped their smartphone to their wrists!

The combination of good looks, unlimited third-party customizable watch faces, durable yet lightweight and elegant styling of this Amazfit GTR smartwatch, plus basic notifications and activity tracking features in addition to an almost month-long battery life even under normal use (not crippled power saving mode) puts the Apple watch and all of those Samsung Tizen and Google wear OS based smartwatches to shame! Best of all, it costs less than USD $130. Good work Xiaomi /Huami! Looking forward to the GTR 47mm successor that hopefully can store at least 10 custom watchfaces (so we don't have to waste time switching watchfaces from the phone) and yes, an even longer battery life. Please have 'always on display' last at least 30 days or more on the Amazfit GTR successor and you'll have another best seller. In my current 47mm Amazfit GTR set to have an 'always on' display, I need to charge every 6-8 days. Make it 30 days 'always on' in the next Amazfit 47mm iteration and it will catapult you to #1!

The major issue with the software for me is that the timer, countdown, etc. can't be run in the background. Otherwise its one of the best value options out there and looks/wears well.

After owning MiBand 1, MiBand 1s, MiBand 2, there are really little to desire for Xiaomi linked wearable watch, there are too many hit & Missed, many of the function never really works as promised, though thumb up for the battery life which outlast all their rival, other than that I rather buy myself a real watch (even a $20 Casio work perfectly if I ever need a watch)

First, very nice review. To Huami amazfit : your smartwatches are very popular to greece, so i'd like to ask you please, to include greek language to amazfit smartwatches and greek character support to notifications. It would be nice if gsmarena helps to push this note to huami.

Do not buy if you need to use the GPS. It is not working on the latest firmware and software even though the company insisted that the issue is fixed.

maddy3396, 31 Oct 2019Does this support navigation? Any smart watch (best value for money) which supports navigation?Unfortunately, there is no native maps support. Best you can achieve are verbose, real-time notifications for directions with a third party app. Notify and fitness for Amazfit seems to do the trick. There are other apps as well. This setup, of course, means you are using your phone's gps rather tha the GTR's.
