Hello there. Please ignore the unhelpful ones, if they knew the answer to your question they would have answered it without the sarcasm.
Anyway, the SGS is supposed to be a certified WiFi Direct device but it hasn't yet been implemented as far as I know. The SGS II i9100 has it though and it's reported to be a replacement to Bluetooth, as it works in a similar manner but with WiFi speeds.
There is some work going on over on XDA developers to get the SGS II WiFi direct software ported onto the SGS 1. You can read about it at the following link.

marc, 18 Sep 2011Sent my galaxy s 2.2 to samsung authorised service centre to upgrade to 2.3. After upgrading ... moreHi,
I'm about to send mine off in a few days. Anyway, i read people talking about battery drain issues on the new improved GB, and they said that when we/they upgrade we are supposed to do a factory reset to get the phone settings all refreshed so that the phone properly recognises the new update. I have no idea how true this is, but people were saying this solved issues. I would of thought the service centre would have told you that. Anyway, from having my buggy nokia phones, i found out that a hard reset worked far better at resolving bugs than a factory reset. So if you know how to do a hard reset on your sgs, then that may help also as a last resort. Apparantly it will not change your firmware, but just reset the phone to as new. You will need to back up your apps (not sure what the difference is with a F.R and hard reset on the sgs). Let me know if it works.

Nicky, 17 Sep 2011@TC,
Can you pl confirm whether functionalities like Wifi,GPS etc are working for you.
Yeste... moreI will test the gps later today, and wifi at work on monday.
It is not "my" kernel, I just use it!
You should be able to just replace the kernels because they are both built for jvs and both are based on Chanfires kernel that I think is just a modified stock jvs-kernel with added root..., but I myself flashed the Semaphore jvs 1.7.0 kernel after flashing stock jvs firmware from samfirmware.com and I use Odin when I flash both the firmware and the kernel.
@TC,
Can you pl confirm whether functionalities like Wifi,GPS etc are working for you.
Yesterday I flashed the CF krnel at http://www.theandroidsoul.com/root-xxjvs/.
But I am seeing mywifi gets reset for split second once in minute or so!!
Can I just replace my xisting kernel with yours?Do you see any issues?
I installed jvs, android 2.3.5, from samfirmware.com and then I rooted... by flashing this kernel http://attachments.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=716779&d=1315764802 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908 It uses all the amazing stuff of Chainfire's kernel and additionally it is patched with:
Supercurio's Voodoo Sound v10 and Voodoo Color
Existz OC/UV
Neldar's BLN
Speedmod color fix
I have both S2 and this, S1, and I think S1 is almost as good now with this latest update, but S2 will be the best again when it too get 2.3.5 and I get the 2000 mAh battery from Samsung made for S2.
Hi,
I did a XXJVS upgrade rom and the CF kernel for it.
Evrything seems to be OK.But one question. When I reset the phone (reboting is fine),it throws during the boot and end in having usual reboot?
(mainly the CWM is spitting these errors)
To get a better perspective on the custom ROM,what all aspects the ROM available at http://www.theandroidsoul.com/download-install-xxjvs-firmware-update-galaxy-s-i9000-to-android-2-3-5/ differs with the CynogenMod ROM?
One gauranted thing will be kernel, anything in Android s such?If so which one is better?

Excellent stuff. Speaking of batteries, a friend of mine has just fitted a new battery to his HTC Wildfire S. It's a massive 2200 mAh battery, but it makes the phone three times as thick.
Anyway, my battery gave out on me last night whilst I was watching Sky news on my phone. I think it was upto two days and eight hours use when it died, which is still excellent considering the amount of use the phone had, plenty of web surfing, emailing and watching videos as well as texting and calling.
Cheers.
